CS Mini Tac Bowie and Schrade SCHF66.
Both are super neat. The Schrade is so non descript the marketing team didn't even bother to give it a name. I love the design, I really connect with it as a hard use tool. It is my main EDC and has taken the over from all my folders. It is in a soft nylon pouch meant to vertical carry on a belt but I carry it in my pocket. Schrade really nailed the design imo it just works as a hard use EDC. you get maximum control, leverage and grip with great ergos and a stout piercing blade with maximum usable cutting edge. Makes me wonder why I ever bought a folder - folders are just an expensive pre-broken compromise with necessarily worse ergonomics. I assumed the steel was cheap stainless but it came with what appears to be rust spots. Also not particularly sharp out of the box. Schade could put a bit of effort into marketing and materials and this would be a classic. My first Schrade and I know nothing about the company. The knife just caught my eye and for the low price took a gamble. So glad I did.
The Mini Tac has motivated me to buy the whole series. I also carry it in pocket but the kydex? sheath does take up a bit of real estate. It is meant to b a neck knife and comes with a neck chain. I think it would be better strapped to my hiking pack than carried around my neck.
The blade was hella sharp out of the box, I will not use this as an EDC beater as I think the blade is too thin for that role - it is super cool to carry and handle even tho I will use it less frequently.
I highly recommend both knives, in terms of value for money.
I will probs pay someone to make me a horizontal belt carry sheath for the Schrade, a custom sheath will cost more than the knife but I will replace the knife in time and have a sheath ready for the replacement. From memory I believe I have seen generic leather sheath for sale on the Buck website, that might be a sheath option as well.
