Can anybody recommend a GOOD pair of nail clippers?

AG Russell used to do some hen & rooster ones, but all I can find is junk.

He still has some for sale. They might not be the H & R, but are good quality.

YMMV,

I to was looking for some quality nail clippers recently and ended up buying two. My local Brookstone store had some really nice German made stainless steel clippers which I really like and also ended up buying a set of Dovo German made nail clippers from Heimerdinger Cutlery in Louisville, Kentucky at a very good price.

Can't go wrong with either. However, the Brookstone clippers are very nicely done and the price reflects it.

The quality of the Brookstone clipper is very good, and it cuts very well.

I purchased a mid-size pair at my local grocery store for $2.49 full retail price. They are made by Revlon and they are sized between the standard little Gem size and the giant toenail clipper size. These Revlon clippers cut very well and the extra leverage of the mid-size allows them to cut through tough toenails even though they are not the larger size, which I attribute to their superior cutting edge. Overall, a very good value at $2.49 plus tax and no shipping ;)

Thanks for the replies.

I think I'll go for the A G Russell version to start with as they are closest to the H & R ones that I was hoping for.

The Brookstone ones look good, too, but is is hard to tell from pics, I might try to pick some up next. The Dovos look pretty much like the standard, wilkinson sword et al drugstore cheapies. They're about the same price, but I might get a pair as part of my order if I buy some shaving gear, just to try them out.

Cheers

Walmart carries a set of Gerber clippers in the knife section now. Thay cost $8 and also have a pair of scissors and a nail file and knife blade. I got one for fathers day and have to say I think the clippers work very well.

I have both the flat Dovo (very similar to your AG Russel design) and the Brookstones. I can tell you both are excellent quality and provide a clean cut. I prefer to use the Brookstone's for normal grooming as they give the cleanest cut and are very precise. I keep the flat dovo's in my watch pocket for the occasional hang nail or split. My father purchased the large Brookstones for his toenails. Those things are like slabs of lexan and he typically had to use the plier type nippers. The large Brookstones go through them with out a problem. He wished he had found them years ago. Good luck
