Nail Clippers

Perhaps this question has been addressed before. I could not find it.

When ever someone ask for advice as to items they may have forgotten to include to their Survival Kit, I don't see "many" folks chiming in for nail clippers. Am I missing something?

In short and long term survival situations I would imagine that foot care is important. No one would argue that good socks prevent blisters and jungle rot. But what good are the socks that are shredded by your own toe nails? Also, I can attest to the fact that a developing hang nail is easier to remove with a toe nail clipper than just a sharp blade.

I am just curious. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Leatherman Micra. Good pair of scissors plus a couple of other useful tools in about the same space as a pair of clippers.

I carry nail clippers in my pocket at all times. I would not include them in my list for a bag but they would be with me just as my slip joint, keys, and wallet would be.

I usually have a couple clippers stashed at various places where I spend a great deal of time. I have a pair in my desk at work (primarily for cutting pesky hangnails...I'm not exactly trimming my toenails there), one in my truck, and one in my bathroom at home. I never really have any nail cutting emergencies. If I do, I have a SAK Classic on my keychain that would suffice.

I never cut my nails with nail clippers- always use the scissors on my leatherman

I agree - personal hygiene is important. Whenever I am outside city limits, I always have a Leatherman Micra (EDC), fingernail clippers (the little ones, not the big ones), and good tweezers. The benefits gained in that little amount of space - worth it:thumbup:

Yup, small scissors and file on my SAK Classic. Matter of fact, the reason I started carrying that knife so many years ago was that it took care of my manicuring needs as well as supplying a toothpick, somewhat usable tweezers, and a useful blade for opening letters and packages.

Nail clippers are also really good for cutting zip ties. It can be fairly difficult to safely cut a really tight zip tie without damaging the which is bound. A nail cutter clips through it with little effort and no risk.

Like Getahl said, I have a few stashed in my favorite places. The car, bathroom, and probably my tackle box. The ones in the tackle box cover the part of the nail that you just can't clean no matter how many times you wash up after cleaning salt water fish :barf:. Just 'cause I live by salt water doesn't mean that I want to smell like fish and shrimp.

I have the wenger nail clippers, super handy, though a bit bulky.
Has a nail tool and a small blade as well.

I typically cut muy nails before heading out in he bush but a nail clipper is a good idea. I use nail clippers all the time to trim the splices of natural cordage. They are great for that. Mac

I always have a pair of henckels nail clippers in my pocket. They are the first clippers I've seen which are actually sharp. I also always have a SAK Explorer which has scissors for emergency nail cutting

Hey you pussies! Who needs a nail clipper having a nice 7"+ heavy chopper on the belt? Just try not to miss, otherwise it gets kind of messy there...
:D :D

Mikel

PD: I also carry them when I go fishing... best tool ever to trim lines after tying the fishing hooks.
