Purchased a Native 5 SPY27 the other day and should be delivered by this weekend. Looking forward to some time with it. There's something about the Native 5 just keeps me coming back for more. I only have 2 variations of it (G10 and Salt) and I'm not a heavy user, but the Native 5 is always in my pocket ready to slice and dice or whatever else I throw at it. Just thought I'd share, thats all!

I only have one native 5 in my collection at the moment, but it gets some pocket time now and then when I want something light and small with a lot of capability. Congrats on the new knife!

I have the Native 5 SPY27 in lightweight, and an M4 in G10. I love them both.

My Native 5 is a “weekend” knife, as it’s a bit too tactical for office work. That said, I really like the way it handles.

I have a Native 5 lw s30v ,love it.I really wanted to try out the sp 27 so I picked up a Para 3 lw. Really liking this steel

Any reports regarding performance and upkeep for anyone here? It seems not a terrible amount of time has been invested in using this steel because it isn't taking things beyond what already is and I can't help but think that the pricing (and models) rolled out in this steel are shielding its exposure. S45VN and (especially) Magnacut sure did seem to foil much excitement for this steel, unfortunately.

Say, sal, I read somewhere on the S-co forums that you were interested in offering SPY27 as a sprint run in the upcoming Stretch 2 XL; are there any additional Seki models you plan on sprinting in this steel as well?

Hi Weeping Minora,

I'd like to do at least a sprint of the entire Endura "family in SPY27. But it's a ways down the road.

I am finding spy 27 to get the nastiest edge all the way up to diamond polish on a strop with zero fight and seems plenty tough cutting wood and cardboard.

It reminds me of CPM 154 but with the high cobalt it responds to sharpening like a dream. No burr to speak of :) and its the first bug to bite me in a while. I still can't believe how it sharpens .

I can tell there is something special in the sauce. You can see it looking at the steel grain and how it sharpens. Sal knows more Sal Glesser Sal Glesser

Thank you, BellaBlades. This is tempting my trigger finger to pull on a N5 before the slated Seki runs...

I’ve got my first Native 5 on the way too. Hard to believe I’ve been a Spyderco fan since 1982 and haven’t owned one yet.

I was lucky enough to snag the milled CF scale version when it was available for about 30 seconds….

Well, it was a tough call and after debate, I decided to forego waiting for the initial drop of the Stretch XL, in favor of two Natives in SPY27. I've been playing with S110V, S90V, Maxamet and K390 for the better part of the last year and after re-visiting HAP40 just recently, I decided I needed some more "sharpener" steel in my rotation. I'd like to be able to pull out some of my higher grit stones without sacrificing performance. Perhaps I'll share my findings after the honeymoon.

Cheers.

I, too, admittedly put off the Native design from my rotation for a number of years. I believe it was 2019 (or 2020?), when the teal lightweight in S90V came out that I finally pulled the trigger. Only knock I have on the lightweights is the lack of washers. Have to keep that thing oiled like the Tin Man.

Congrats on your find, Ron. I think you will be pleased by the design and equally so with that particular model.

You won't be disappointed. In my use on a mix of cardboard, wood, and plastic bottles, it held up better than a Buck S30V blade. I am impressed.

Now I'm curious to try Buck's S30V 😄.

Received the knives today. Both are in Spyderco's usual top-notch condition (IME). Blades are hair-popping sharp, as it, with a refined bite. Looking forward to putting one to the stones to see just how well I can tune this steel. Highly looking forward to carry and use.
