Wasn't sure were to post this thought I would try here over the last few days I've been looking for a good war club. The ball head variety sort of what Cold Steel offers but made of hard wood and functional. Found a few online and tried to order one but seems both vendor's are out of stock with lengthy waits before they get more. My question is does anybody know of a place were I could either buy one have somebody make one or even get a piece of wood and make one myself? Thanks in advance Rich

There were a couple real good guys that used to post on here all the time that are excellent in this area. However they got tired of guys doin the old bait and switch on trades with them, and they left.

Hopefully someone can point you in the right direction here.

Thanks Op hope so to should of mentioned the one I'm looking for is a pretty simple design have a pic and some specs post them when I get to a computer and wood carving not really my thing but I'm always game to try.

Find a good root ball, let it dry for a year or so and whittle one, maybe you'll get lucky and find a fat wood root ball, in that case you can start carving in it immediately.

If you have a lot of time, plant an oak sapling and twist a knot in it. When it gets big enough harvest the tree and let dry. That's how I believe a lot of Native Americans did it when they were going to give it to their son when they got a certain age.

Wolf you never cease to amaze me my friend, those are awesome ! I have checked Todd Bitlers work his hawks and clubs way over my budget wish I could afford one some day trying to keep my war club budget under $100 if possible. Heres the one I am trying to pick up just can't find one in stock also could live without the carving although it does add to the beauty of the club.

I have one i keep in my truck that is about 2 feet long and has a big twisted knob on the end. I think it is possibly made from a big grapevine like you see in the woods and swung on as a kid.

Tell you one thing a good one is hard to find thought I had the one I wanted emailed them told me they had some in stock by the time I put my order in they were gone.

Looks like I might of lucked out unless I get an email back that they're out of stock ordered this one. Nope foiled again wasn't in stock either.

My buddy got his from a Masai warrior when he was in Africa. Traded a folding pocket knife for it. There's a small chip in the ball end where the previous owner knocked the tooth out of a charging hippo with it.

I realize that's a pretty involved way of getting a war club but I thought everyone would appreciate the image.

Found a site last night that sells 95% complete War Clubs made with Curly Maple , Black Cherry or Black Walnut they just need some sanding and a finish I ordered the Iroquis Wolverine Head Club in Curly Maple can't wait. Some pics from his site Thanks everyone for the help. Rich

That bottom one looks a lot like a Queen Anne chair-leg.
Looking forward to seeing yours out of the box and after you've finished it.
I've read the knotted sapling story a couple of places, but with ironwood/hornbeam as the preferred material.

He makes Kentucky rifle stocks war clubs are a side thing and you're right does kinda look like a chair leg. I will post some before and after pics for sure.

Keep an eye on eBay. I bought two early this year as a lot for under $75. One was plain (no special carving, just a ball at the end of a stick), and the other had a foxes head holding the ball with brass nails for eyes. A really nice piece which I ended up gifting to a good friend.
