I'm wondering -- is the Native flat or hollow ground?

I've seen pictures that seem like some are flat and some are hollow.

Thanks!

Harry,

*nod* I'm not sure I understand; I thought sabre meant that the bevel just doesn't go all the way up to the spine (as compared to full-bevel, or zero-ground).

Does the actual grind have a radius, or is it even/flat?

Thanks!

Saber grind means that the "hollow" grind doesn't reach all the way up to the spine. This is done for strength. My hollow grind starts halfway down the blade and goes to the edge. There's a false edge at the top, near the tip, just like the Police. Anyhoo, that's what I meant by saber ground.

I don't know if the plainedge Natives use a flat ground profile or not. I don't own any plainedge Spydies, nor do I plan to. Hopefully someone that owns a PE Native will chime in here.

Ahhh, perfect!

Thanks for the explanation and description.

I like flat ground knives just because the shoulders on hollow-ground knives tend to get hung up on stuff I'm cutting, but the Native's profile looks so tasty... I can't help myself. ;)

Thanks again.

I have no idea what grind the plainedge version utilizes. I do know that the SE Native in S30V is the ideal tactical folding knife for me. This thing cuts like a chainsaw, and the tasteful addition of the plainedge at the tip is great for precise cuts. I've looked far and wide for a daily carry folder that fits all of my requirements, and the SE Native in S30V steel is it!

I have a CPM-440V SE Native and it looks like the blade is hollow ground.
I also preffer full flat ground blades (like the Millie or the Lil'T)

All the natives I have are sabre grind. This means that the blade is flat grind up to a point and then flatens out before they reach the spine.Looks like a hollow grind but cuts like a flat grind.

Where can I get a Native with S30V blade and do they make an unserrated version?

You can call New Graham Pharmacy toll free @ 866-333-4445 to see if they have 'em in stock. If not, they should be getting more shortly. Cheers.

The Native III is the new 3D Native (modified handle design, wire clip) which should be coming out soon with VG-10 blade steel - made in Seki City, Japan. The S30V version of the Native is the original FRN version with a change from CPM440V (now called S60V) to S30V blade steel - made in Golden, Colorado.

It is a hollow sabre grind that I have right now.
I think the FRN version that I have with CPM440V is also a hollow sabre grind.

Yep, the CPM440V FRN version I just got is a thin sabre hollow.

Nice blade, handles well for such a small knife, except that 440V is such a pain to sharpen and is hard to get "smooth".

Now, all we need is a Super-Native in flatground S30V !!!

:D

Thanks so much, guys.
