My buddy has this little slot screwdriver on his key ring made by proto tools. It looks like a key but appears to be quite sturdy. Anyone know where I could get one?

Of course there is 4-in-1 from craftsman for $1.99 at your local sears.

I have an older version of the Proto and the Craftsman 4-way. Both are very handy.

Do you have the teardrop shape "handle" and the tapered shaft on that old PROTO of yours? Found one in my dad's shop 25 years ago, stayed on my keyrings until about 4 years ago when my wife took it from me for herself. erg. The Swisstech Screwzall will do things it will not do, but I still miss it for many things. Looked into geting another 3 years ago and it was not marketed then.

The new one looks like you can get more torque from the wider head, but the keyring gave a wider torque arm than the handle anyways. The old one just works so smoothly. No sharp corners except for the slot blade. No semi-phillips either, but those are usualy more trouble than they are worth. I do not know what steel they used but it has taken a real beating from some pry jobs. From the 3 dimensional shape it must have been forged, not stamped from a sheet. It even worked really well to lift an occassional chip, if you had the static under control otherwise. My wife wants a phillips just like the old one, not a combo blade.

I have one of those old Proto somewhere, it´s quite strong, also a couple diferent of the 4 in 1 variety, not as strong but several sizes, not so comfortable to use, and a P-38 knockoff with screwdriver tip and bottle opener, handy little thing.

Had one or the other on my keychain for a while but they didn´t get used much, since my SAK always took over.

I just notices ebay item 6101652734 is one of the older proto screwdrivers, just in case anyone actually wants to pay that much for one. Ends Jun-13-04 15:58:44 PDT

If you search ebay right now for (first search) proto screwdriver and (second search) key ring screw driver set, you will find one like Peter's picture and some outfit selling one that looks like it along with a #2 phillips.

Here's a neat one I got about 20 years ago in an antique store in Hartford. This is what they had before Leathermans were invented and possibly before the Swiss Army knife.

Peter, you really love those keyring tools huh? ;)

I agree with RARanney, we do need those in Ti or some S30V. I'd love to see you come out with a little line of keyring tools to compliment your Prybabies :)

One year later after pulling apart a micra and making my "KeyMan", still use it everyday and works like a champ!

Wow...that is a cool idea. Any instructions for doing the same? They are missing a HUGE selling point by not making something similar to your creation.
