Need help finding an IWB EDC carry knife (similar to Dynamis Razorback)

Folks,

I know what I want, but I can't find it. Perhaps the Forum can point me to some knives to consider....I am looking for an EDC/defensive concealed carry knife, with a matching, low profile IWB sheath.

Blade length: 3.0-3.5"
Handle material, Kydex or something similar.
Steel: S30v or something like that.
Budget: $150 or less, new or used.

The Dynamis Razorback is roughly equivalent to what I want, with the gimping dialed down, no serrations, and I would prefer not to have a double edged blade. A swedge design would be better.

Lighter weight, responsive handling, and ease of concealment are much more important than heft and the ability to baton firewood.

The Dynamis sheath is a design I really like. Plastic (or some injection molded composite), and a nice, strong, slim clip, no rivets, no TekLok, nothing extraneous or that adds bulk.

Any suggestions for some knives to consider would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Dpx hest comes to mind. Some models come with a kydex sheath and clip plate.

Spyderco has some models you might like (Enuff, Reverse, Ronin and Street Beat to name a few) so do Cold Steel (for instance the Spike, Mini Tac and Secret Edge) and Bastinelli (PicoloMako).

I was thinking spydie street beat lightweight

Or Boker Plus Mosier Trigonaut, for the shape if not the weight

Thanks very much, folks. I looked them all over.
The Spydie Street Beat might work. (I have a Delica4 that has held up extremely well after10 years plus of brutal EDC carry.)
The Boker Trigonaut also looks good, particularly the handle shape but I am not a fan of 440C.
SOG Instinct as a cheap one to try out.
Bradford Guardian 3.5 also looks very good.

Also, the CRKT SIWI looks great from a design standpoint, but I dislike color finished blades, and this particular knife has just gotten crushed in the reviews for its purported mediocre build quality and being overpriced.

Check out the Fox Profili fixed blade. It is a similar shape to the knife you are looking for. However it has a 4 inch blade.

That said imho the perfect knife for the role you are looking for is a Spyderco Street Beat. I find this knife extremely comfortable to carry in waist band. I carry it at the 3:00-3:30 position and it is one of the only iwb fixed blades of this size that carries so comfortably I don’t even notice it is there. The handle is so comfortable and secure it is a masterpiece.

Street Beat is the knife on the left. Blade length is 3.5 inches and it is in your price range.

The only issue is the sheath is made out of a plastic that seems to dull the edge if the edge drags on it while you draw the knife. So ideally you should get a custom sheath made for it. I could hook you up with the woman who makes the upgrade sheath for the street beat if you want. You can get the knife and the upgrade sheath for your price point.

It costs 30$ but is way better. This upgrade sheath used to come with the other version of the street beat Spyderco used to make but was now discontinued. Now they only make the black version known as the Street Beat Liteweight.

Also you should try out a static cord as a way to carry. I find it the best way to carry iwb because you can place the sheath anywhere on your waistband and move it around any time you like.

Here is a picture of how to static cord carry. Normally you can just thumb the knife out of the sheath but in a self defense situation where you have to draw your knife fast the string will pull the sheath off your knife as you draw it.

I don't know. I read about how great the static cord system is but I just don't see how under normal every day use/movement how that knife is gonna stay put.
1st issue is when you take a leak. undo your pants and what do you do with the knife? also when I sit down (like in a car) I bend at the waist as most people do . that position is gonna push that knife blade up and the knife will be hanging out the top of my pants by about 70% or more. Ive tried it and it happens every time. the only time it doesn't happen consistently is with a blade of under 3" say in the 2" range
wasn't gonna even mention self defense aspect as I am not a "knife fighter" but the basic rule of carry in SD is utilizing a secure method of carry so the knife stays in the same place no matter what you are doing.

The other factor which I have grappled with is concealment which is mentioned by the OP . I have found with fixed blades that a normal sized handle sticks out and "prints" or looks weird even under a shirt. Even that Rat or Izula shown above would be instantly noticeable by all the liberal sheeple in my state. I cant see how someone can carry the Spydie street beat concealed or inside waistband. that blade would be digging into my gut all day

the only thing that has worked for me when needing to combine all these factors has been a La Griffe style fixed blade with a curved handle and a short blade of 2-3". You can put that style of knife inside the wasit band and cant the knife to almost horizontal and "hook" the curved handle over your belt thus giving relatively easy /quick access . I utilize one of those Loop/snap things .
I am noe delving into another EDC method for fixed blades and it is in stron side pocket with a blade utilizing the karambit style ring. not a karmbit style blade just the ring. with just that ring poking out of yourpocket no one thinks knife . but its very quick to access . Have to resort to making a custom sheath for it though as no production knife sheath other than the SOCP dagger comes with an appropriate sheath for this method. still working on the sheath with fist iteration ok but not perfect . unforeseen issues that I need to think about.

there is one other knife design (brous Blades Silent solder ) that I have had success with also in different carry methods

would like to hear from those successfully using the static cord method and also what others have had success with in EDC'ing fixed blades concealed

Lapedog,

Thanks very much for your thoughtful and very detailed post. I really like the Street Beat, although the Lightweight with the FRN models has the black coated blade, which is not to my preference. I wonder if I could strip the coating off the blade? Or, maybe just buy the Micarta model, which I understand is not much heavier than the Lightweight.

Based on my CCW handgun and concealed folding knife carry history, I tend to EDC pretty small, form factor-wise. I have trialed larger guns and larger knives, and found myself not carrying them as frequently due to bulk, heft, printing, or discomfort driving or sitting for long periods.

But, I have big hands (XL glove and 11" spread) and want to get 4 fingers on the handle (and gun grip). The Street Beat looks big enough for me to get my mitt on it comfortably. My tried and true carry positions fall in the range of appendix to 3:30.

As for the sheath, if you are familiar with the Dynamis Razorback, the OEM sheath is a really nice piece: some type of very low profile rotomolded plastic, no rivets or screws, and an integral metal clip. On and off in a second, clip retains more than the sheath every time, light, durable. Like this:

I'll be looking for a custom aftermarket sheath designed along the lines of the Dynamis sheath. Finally, as for the static line carry, I have not used that method for daily concealed carry, but have used it on occasion when big game hunting. To ponykid's point, I found that it rides fine tucked in front in an appendix carry, but you do have to check it and occasionally adjust it a bit. This is no big deal to me as I regularly "sweep" myself anyway to confirm that my gun and/or knife is riding the way I want, and is concealed. The other nice thing about a static line carry is that you can easily swap it from appendix to 5:00 carry or undo the cord and tuck it in your pocket, for example, to accommodate changes in your position/tasks.
