Hello,
Found this in a pawn shop today. The blade measures 24". The sword is all steel construction. The grip is leather covered and I am not sure of what is under it. There are no markings I can find. I do not feel the leather wrap on the grip is original to it. The steel looks to be 18th century or earlier. Has anyone ever seen one or have any ideas? I am debating whether I should carefully remove the leather on the grip. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance,
Mark

On second thought, it looks ,more like a Kaskara sword.

Agree it is a probably Sudanese kaskara. The lack of a real pommel, blade form and cross designs are dead giveaways. It's possible it's 18th century but more likely 19th.
