Hey my friend was given this knife a while ago and I'm trying to figure out if its rare/worth anthing. If you know anything about it please reply.

I read the rules this is my first post and I know I dont have gold level so I cant ask for the value of it. It's not my knife so I don't know if it really matters since I don't think my friend would sell it since it was a gift. Any info would be nice.

This is what I know, it has a tan leather sheath and is made by Marttiini. I searched the site and cannot find the exact model. Sorry for the bad quality photo as I had to take it on my phone.
It says on one side of the blade engraved:

Made by Marttiini
Finland-Explorer Knife
INOX

then on the other side it is engraved

FINBATT-UNDOF

I did a little digging and I think UNDOF is a military or peacekeeping outfit.

I should disallow it, but I'm going to let this stand. I don't know the model or price myself, but it seems like a basic working knife, not a high-dollar item. I have a similar knife by EKA in Sweden. The knife itself is a common Scandinavian style, and could be called a puukko in Finland. The broad flat of the blade with a narrow bevel is typical of these knives.

UNDOF is a UN force, and the Finnish Battalion could have served there, explaining the marking, probably after-market.

United Nations Disengagement Observer Force

Supervising ceasefire and disengagement agreement

From early March 1974, the situation in the Israel-Syria sector became increasingly unstable, and firing intensified. The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) was established on 31 May 1974 by Security Council resolution 350 (1974) PDF Document, following the agreed disengagement of the Israeli and Syrian forces in the Golan.

Since then, UNDOF has remained in the area to maintain the ceasefire between the Israeli and Syrian forces and to supervise the implementation of the disengagement agreement.

I've seen this one more often with a gut hook ground into the back which appeared very awkward. They show up on ebay from time to time.

I have got Marttiini Explorer knife, probably for about 10 years now. It looks a bit different, has a hidden tang construction, though there are some similarities there too: in the blade and handle shape.
So yours looks like a nice working knife and in good condition. I do not think there is anything else to it.
I am not absolutely sure about the cost or my knife at the time, but I guess it was about $70 new.
