Sorry for this intrusion. I'm more used to the production knife forum so not sure how to present this. This machete belongs to a friend. In the sheath it is 3 feet long. The blade is just over 19 in and the grip is 13 1/2. Raised carving on grip is "Cpt L W Therbert" QMC (quartermaster corp??) The pommel is a carved native's head carved from the grip.
Raised carving on wooden sheath is ST Lucia BWI "1946". Carving includes waves, sailboat and palm trees. Blade has stamped on it Robert Mole & Son, Birmingham England, Steamship registered,Made in England. Serial number appears to be 123009.
My friend believes that this was carved by natives in ST Lucia for a Capt on leave, returning home to Britain from the south Pacific. Does anyone have any other info on this type of blade? Any ideas on where to look for more info?
Also, my friend wants to sell it. What would be the best forum for that?? It's kind of between production and custom. Any for sale forums for these types of blades that you folk would know of???
