Leaning them up in the corner against the wall ect just isn't getting it done.

I have a half attic man cave upstairs. So what this means is I have about 4' walls and then 8/10 pitch. It's long and narrow.
Quick fast and cheap is what I need.

Looking for some ideas or inspiration.

I like a simple pine box. It has to be long enough to fit as many axes as you need to store. They're not pretty but they keep them off the floor and cover the sharp parts. Simple solutions are battery boxes for trailer batteries. They hold several axes and you can't accidentally kick the bit.

Don't set the head on the ground. You will get corrosion where they touch the ground. Most vintage axes show this problem because everyone sets them in a corner on concrete or dirt.

Hang them on your wall. They'll be stored safe and out of the way, plus ad some nice decoration to your man cave when they're not in use.

I've got my USMC NCO dress saber, an authentic CSA light cavalry saber, my old Kabar, an AFP machete I carried in the Philippines, an AK bayonet I brought back from Mogadishu, and an 1873 Swiss Vetterli hanging on the walls of my home office. Nothing says "man cave" like sharp steel and/or firearms!

Good point on the concrete floors. Thats one of the reason my garage floor is always coverd in wood shaveings, at least thats one of my excuses;). Its so apparent with tools that have laided on shop floors. It doesn't take long either, even in my dry climate.
Boxes are good, but my problem is now alot bigger than a box.

LOL! I like your style.

Sounds like you have a great cave! I like pictures.

Mine looks completly ghetto. It doubles as a gym, gun storage, bow storage and now axes and saws. It used to be my daughters room(she can't ever have it back).
I think you have it right I need to hang them.

Nothing says "man cave" like a small amory, axes and vintage York 45's slapping together.;)

Thank you for your service:thumbup:.

I'm planning on building a box out of 2x4s and plywood to store some of my axes & hatchets to keep it in my tool shed......might be an idea for you to consider.

hanging sharp tools on the wall is not a good idea, it's better to keep them in a locked box.

I've got a similar problem. I plan on hanging em high for all too see.

Google "best made axe rack" I like some of those ideas for hanging the axes. I could see myself then hanging saws above such a display.

Mine live carelessly in a unheated shed. To avoid surface rust over the winter I lightly spray them (and my shovels etc) with WD40 before they get put away. If they're going to get stacked in a corner make sure they sit on a piece of wood or styrofoam rather than on a damp concrete floor.

I posted this before in another thread but I built this for some axes. I need to build a couple more.

Been brain storming on this same problem myself ..... but that's all the further I got. :( I've just been trying to find some kind of nifty "thing" to use as a hanger but it's to the point where I need quite a few of whatever "things" I come up with and then there is the issue of wall space. Really want a couple next to my back door so that I can grab one each time I go out to get wood for the furnace.

Here's one I built today. It's made from 1"x12", 2"x2"', glue and screws. I was getting tired of trying to find places to hide axes where nobody could stub a toe on them. It seems pretty safe.

There are 13 axes in there. Mostly double bits, (2 single bits). Some of the double bits have sheaths on them. It's kind of heavy to move around as it sits, and it will hold more axes. The handles on the side help. Also notice the feet to hold it off the concrete and stiffen the bottom.

I only took an hour or so to build and cost about $15. The wife still won't let me display them upstairs. At least they're off the concrete basement floor.

I neEd to treat it with some BLO. Maybe tomorrow.

Later.

Lots of great ideas. I plan to make a simple one like a coat rack upstairs and a craftsman stye along the lines of halfaxe's for my office down stairs. And the boxes that Brent likes will always hold my hatchets.
Some tree trimmers that my neigbhor hired left with a couple nice ones today. Good guys and they turned me on to silky saws and access to raw materials that I can't always get. It was fun. My dogs didn't even try to eat them. If my dogs say you are OK you are OK.
This is just part of what I have going on. I am trying to quit though.

That's quite a problem you've got there. That box I showed will probably hold 22 double bits or pulaskis. It will hold a lot more single bits. Maybe 35 or 40.

I was thinking about putting some casters on it so it can be moved around easier. If it was completely full, it would weigh too much to lift. Halfaxe's rack is really cool. It's definitely better for displaying an axe collection. I have a lot of double bits and I think the box guards the bits a little better. I always worry about me or my family brushing against a razor sharp bit.

My display tools are on elastic strings thru pegboards. Much like a Snap-on dealer truck.
User tools are just set down where ever they are supposed to be. Sometimes they get rusty, I dont care.

I had them hanging on the wall but am slowly putting a wood stove in the shop under where they hung. I need to decide on something new. I always hear don't lean them, but in every thread I can find there are countless axes leaned up in corners. For now I have a barrel. Besides, I was already out of room on the wall and it had been keeping them out of the way.
