Of my two PM2s one is the simple satin on black combo, and I'm thinking about picking up some scales for it. The ones I found are the G10 Allen Putman PM2 scales and I don't know much about them.

1. Are they worth the price? (about 90 bucks plus shipping)
2. Do they increase the width of the knife?
3. Is there a set of scales you'd recommend over these?

Any feedback or wisdom is greatly appreciated. Have a good one

Edit: I'd also really appreciate some pics if it wasnt too much trouble. Thanks

I love making handles and custom work myself but , they are top notch for the price.
Myself and others could not make these by hand out of aluminum at nearly that price point.
So yes. Go for it.
Some guys on here use CNC as well, Boomer, Deathoffallings and one other,
All great for Para and Griptilian models.

The input is much appreciated. I'd never heard of his work and knowing that he gets your approval will definitely affect my decision. However, the pair Im lookin at are g10 (forgot to mention that, I'll fix it in the post). I'm assuming there's nothing but good to say about those as well?

I've had about 6 sets of Putman scales and all are top notch. The G10 in that pattern might add a little width but look so sweet you won't care.

I have a G10 pair. They're pretty nice, and they just add something to the knife that makes it that much more special. The Spyderco clip will fit, but be aware that if you try to put on a clip thats any thicker than the standard one, the screws will not reach the liners.

Do they compromise the solidness of the handle at the rear? I haven't taken my PM2 apart but I have taken a Manix 2 apart and the lanyard sleeve the ends were enlarged to hold the handle slabs in place. When I replaced the slabs on my Manix 2 one thing I noticed was that the slabs were now "loose" at the rear of the knife.

I'm sure that it's not needed for integrity of the knife, but it was just something I noticed that I didn't like.

Nope, the G10 scales provide as much support as the factory ones. I would imagine the aluminum ones are even more rigid.

I have a set here on my Manix 2, they are really great. Installation was a snap, and Allen was really friendly to work with.

Like BellaBlades has said, they are definitely worth it.

I will give manix scales a run for the money,
but those nested liners are so much faster for him.
As for your question the slabs should not be loose at the end of the Manix knife. The lanyard tube should press in tightly to hold them snug.

My favorite scales of his are those darn aluminum ones. They looks so darn sweet on the para.
I also just checked the link and I really like this blue scales.

Okay Barman, you win.

They're worth it. Give Allen a call and see what you can set up. Don't know whether he's a dealer here or not; just google his name.
