New Benchmade 67 Balisong- how to Dull.

I just got a new BM67. This was by far the most expensive knife I've ever purchased.
The knife is sharp, but with consideration to its price and quality, is there a proper way to
dull the blade so it doesn't cut me.

I've dull my previous cheaper balisongs, which I usually just cut on some smooth metal slowly until its not very sharp.
I just want to know if there is a proper way for such a high quality knife.

Thanks in advance.

Please do what Murphenstein44 said!!! Elec tape or masking tape would be the best way to avoid a cut while you practice.
Be safe, Frank.

Ah just deal with the cuts :-p. Haha I remember when I first started getting into flipping, I bought this cheap ass 14 inch balisong (it was like $20). Flipping it was fun, but not when you get hit with that bad on that 1. I would take some duct tape and cover the blade with a small piece lol. I've become really good at flipping now though, so I don't cover up my blades anymore :-p

Use it to cut things, will dull the blade over the time :D

I don't mind flipping a bali that has a usable working edge but never when the edge is fresh and can still shave hair, that is asking for serious cuts even on minor glances.

Or just put tape on it like others have said if it's only for flipping.

OP bought an expensive knife just to dull it?? To me, that's the same idea as buying a Ferrari and dumping water in the gas tank.

If you don't have a sharpening stone to dull it, grab a ceramic coffee mug or plate and flip it over. Drag the knife edge over the bare ceramic edge on the bottom. Test it as you go just to take off the razor edge. It will be easy to sharpen back up on a stone later.

Gary.

I'll read more into it, I mean honestly its not like i'm going to like make the blade flat. just to take the sharpness off. So if I did dull it, you'd recommend using a sharpening stone to dull it a little?

I know yall say and stress please don't dull the knife, I can see not doing that for any other knife. But honestly, this knife is just for flipping, I don't plan to really use it to cut shit. And as far as stabbings, it could be dull as f*** and be sufficient. A bali, I feel i'm paying for the durability, and flipping mechanism that goes into it. Kind of like throwing knifes. You purchase it to throw the sh*t, not to cut or use it as a pocket knife.

But thanks for all the replies everyone.

When you cannot be sharper than the knife, you must dull it.

I don't flip but don't most people that do flip practice with a sharp knife? So they know when they mess up and correct it? I'm only asking.

But if you want to dull it just draw it straight across a sharpening stone but don't use to many strokes or too much pressure. You don't want to ruin it. Shouldn't take much.

Balisong + edge pro = incentive

Get it right, or bleed!!

Draw it down some high grit sand paper. It'll take the initial bite off.
I'm the other way around (as you can see) If my blade doesn't shave, or I run my fingernail down and feel the slightest nic, I'm breaking out the stones.

It MAKES you learn fast! Lol

Krazy Glue works good for me......the sharper the knife....the cleaner the cut......clean cuts glue back together well. And I dont mean Krazy Glue on the knife either. ....leave the knife alone and glue your cuts.
