To make it short and sweet we are now going to be profile grinding blade blanks after plasma cutting. Just to remove any taper and HAZ. So this means I need a new grinder. Going with a large contact wheel. Was a large belt pully that I turned down.

plan is to thin it down to 1” wide and stretch an 18” bandsaw tire over it. It’s right at 18.25” as it sits and rated at 1300 max rpm. Which means I have the perfect t motor for it here.

not planning on running it off a VFD but I have one if I change my mind. This motor should give me around around 5,800 SFPM The plan is to use 1” wide 60 grit 3m Cubaton CubatonII belts on it.

has anyone used these belts as well as the factory 1” width stuff? Thanks guys - JT

You have the best toys Jarrod...that is a great wheel/grinder you will have. Out of curiosity what length of belt will you run on it? I noticed on a site that I order my belts from that they make belts up to 1"x 100" or 2" x136".

A different question....I noticed on the blanks you cut and ht'd for me that they have a rough edge around them which I think you call HAZ. Do I need to grind that off/profile before I grind bevels? I did, but I didn't know if I needed to or not once they were HT'd.

Yeah 7.5hp at 1170rpm.

yes the HAZ should be removed. I try and cut all blanks a hair over sized to allow for this.. it does not go very deep as the plasma cuts rather quickly.

plan is to use the 1”x72” belts and just use a tiny tension/tracking wheel in the rear. Then add a small rest that will allow me to grind with the radius on center.
