I had kind of lost interest in Saks after a 10 year layoff. I've been into other knives all this time, but the Alox pics have gotten to me. I've still been using Saks over this time, just not really carrying one. I keep a Champion Plus in my travel bag. I collect/restore old Coleman Lanterns and when I 'm on vacation, I usually hit Flea Markets. The magnifying glass comes in handy reading dates/serial numbers and the scissors are perfect for cutting mantle strings and the flathead is perfect for removing pump cup clips. I'm also into deer hunting and keep a hunstman(i think) in my deer camp bag using the saw to cut small finger size limbs when running game cameras and the flathead for removing old batteries out of game cameras. Anyway, they all look like new after probably 15 years of use. I'm really liking the worn silver alox look and I like the red, so figured if I picked up a red Farmer X, I'd eventually have a nice worn red and silver sak.

Kind of a neat tidbit. I always seem to be out of the loop when it comes to exclusives or special runs or I find out about a knife that I wish I would have bought 5 years earlier. I have a whole list of knives that I wish I would have bought. The Farmer X is new since I was last interested in Saks. Anyway, I went to the store that has the red alox Farmer X's, it showed in stock, I tried to order 2 and have one for a gift. It would let me order 1, but not two knives. Called them up to see why I couldn't buy 2 knives and they said that I was getting the very last red Farmer X that they had. They were pretty sure that it would be discontinued. The black Farmer X has already been discontinued from them. So, talk about being on the very back end of an run.

I'm less interested in color changes of current models and more interested in the creation of new ones, and resurrection of discontinued models. I.e. the executive, replace the orange peeler with an equally long flat head screwdriver/light-duty pry bar and you'll have a hot seller, and maybe make some tools regional, i.e. parcel hook, it still makes sense (over there)

You picked well. Red Alox is gorgeous, no two ways about it.

I carried the SAK Huntsman during the 1980’s as my Army EDC. It was a great knife, but I never cared for the slick red plastic handles. I ran across this ALOX Farmer at a pawnshop over a decade ago, bought it at a reasonable price and made it my ‘keep in the car’ knife. In my opinion the ALOX are an order of magnitude better than the synthetic handles - this knife is solid, good action on all the blades and tools - just a perfect all around pocketknife with tools.

I really wish that Victorinox would bring back the red Alox Farmer. Perfect pocketknife in my opinion. I have had several different Alox colors come and go. I have my trusty orange, but would purchase a red one in a heartbeat!

The anodized Alox models are very pretty when new, but the color wears off very quickly, and all of them except for the silver ones end up looking terrible. If Victorinox would at least offer a black Type III hard anodized model, I'd buy that, but until they do, I won't buy any Alox model that isn't silver.
