Just got one in aus 8 it came pretty sharp slicing paper not up to what I sharpen my knives too though and a very toothy edge maybe 400 grit it was. I tried 25 a side that was too wide according to my marker. ( I usually sharpen my spydercos to 15-18 a side.) I then moved it to 20 a side looked pretty decent maybe I should have went to 18 or so. Anyways I just ran it 600 through 1000 grit quick on the wicked edge to polish up the edge I figured that would get me to where I want to be in 10 mins. But I actually made it duller cutter paper. What went wrong wrong angle? I'm not new to sharpening but I always re profile to an exact number from 100 grit up to 4K. And I get pretty nice edges. Today I tried to shortcut all those steps being aus 8.

1) did you paint both edges with a sharpie when on the 600 grit, and was ALL the sharpie removed on Both sides evenly and all the way to the edge?

2) did you get a burr on the entire length of the blade?

For that knife, based on my experience, would definitely have uneven factory bevels. 600 grit may take a while to profile it. Unless you cheated and raised your angle really high and created baisicly a micro bevel.

A lot of times the you think the angle is nailed but when you run the stone the full length of the blade you will find areas that are very uneven.

One more tidbit of info. Don't switch until you are SHARP. Unless you are at a really low grit and are just removing metal. By 300 grit on you should be shavin sharp. The later grits just refine the edge you created on the lower grits.
