Picked this up today at a local pawn shop. Appears to be a Custom Shop stag 124. Overall in used condition, some scratching on the blade and pommel, no box or sheath but the stag is perfect. How does one date one of these and does it appear to be authentic? If its authentic I'm going to drop it off at the factory on Monday and have them refurbish it and see if they have a sheath. Out the door price was $32.60 with Wa state sales tax.

Nice snag. Got yourself a real nugget.

Downside is you're gonna be haunting pawn shops every free moment for a while.

:D

Very nice find brother Colt! A stag Buck of any kind for that coin is rare. But, a 124 for that price is a real deal, add the stag LE. "Wow"

Amazing steal....

Unless someone has a catalog that shows those, or maybe an LE box, be hard to date track.

It was after 2002 that Buck started putting the anvil on customs, and no longer date stamping them.

Wish they would have left the 2002 Year Anvil stamp specific to 2002.

I giggled all the way home. The price was $39.99 but one of the guys who works there was in my old unit and he knocked $10 off. I'm going to swing by the factory on Monday and drop it off for a spa treatment and see if they can hook me up with a sheath.

I have what could possibly be the same knife. Sambar stag handle, polished blade and the Buck/Anvil/Custom/U.S.A. stamp. It has a serial number of 0219/1000 and according to the LE box was made in '06.

Colt, your getting to be like me... finding great deals... I love it... Great find... ITE ...

Sadly it did'nt have the box. It also looks like it has seen some use, although the blade still has the mirror polish except for some scratches. Not a perfect example and the collector value takes a hit with no box, sheath, and having been used but well worth what I paid!

Does it have a serial number?

Cant find a serial number on it:confused:. Thought maybe it may have been buffed off for some reason but there is no evidense of that either. I may be able to find out some more about it tomorrow when I take it in to Buck. Could be a build out, overrun, or something like that too. I'm starting to see a lot of the factory sale stuff starting to pop up araound the area the last couple of years.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but this is most likely a knife that was stolen out of the scrap bin. This happens a lot with the LE knives - a handle gets sanded a bit too much, a handle gets a crack in it, a knife gets sharpened badly - the whole knife can get scrapped. They show up in pawn shops form time to time near the factory. nothing for you to feel bad about, but it happens. You generally find them with no sheath, box, etc, and sometimes they're even unfinished. I've found a few of these myself.

My advice is to buy a sheath, enjoy it, and take it in to the factory for a quick buffing if you would like to clean it up. If it were me, I'd that the opportunity to make a great using knife out of it. Enjoy!

Well, took in yesterday afternoon and Randy just called about 10 min ago to tell me its finished. The factory guys did'nt think it was anything crooked, but I'll get some more info tomorrow when I pick it up. Randy did find me the correct LE sheath and is working on getting a custom shop box! By the time I add the sheath, spa visit, and box I should be into the knife for less than $90!

Jimmer_5, do you work for Buck or live in Post Falls? If so lets hook up for coffee sometime.

Could it possibly be a buildout? It seems to be the same as the LE except for lacking the serial numbers. I know that at times, Buck offers buildouts using leftovers from special projects and LE's. No matter what, you will have a very cool knife at an even cooler price!

There are a lot more "Buildouts" than stolen knives, that's for sure.

Buck uses the leftover parts from special projects and sells those knives. Sometimes they are a slightly different configuration, but usually the only difference is that they are not numbered.

These are not serial numbers, by the way, they are just numbers #85 of 500, or whatever.

Often they never get to that 500 (or whatever) number, but we usually don't know about that unless it comes up here as a question and somebody from Buck checks the total.

You did real, real good.

Here is my 124 back from Buck. They did a really nice job of cleaning up the scratches on the blade and the little pits and pock marks on the pommel. It looks like it just came out of the custom shop!

Took it in Monday and it was ready for pick up Tuesday morning. CS hooked me up with the correct distressed leather 124 sheath, a limited edition box, and the spa treatment all for $38 even. So my total investment is $70.60. As far as more info on the knife, the concensess was that it was made in 2006 and was either an over run sold thru the factory store or at one of the dog track sales, or just a custom shop knife that did'nt get numbered. I asked about it being a custom shop reject or blem, build out, or stolen by an employee and was told probably not. My theroy is that it was sold local from the store or a factory sale and was stolen from the owner and used for whatever by someone who did'nt know its value until it was eventually pawned or sold to the pawn shop for less than $15.

Wow! Buck done an amazing job in fixing the comestics of the knife. It looks great!
