63 year old gun/knife/archery/martial arts guy. Remember my dad, grandfathers shaving with old school razors. Edges on both sides, would open to replace thin double-sided blades.
Actually used them when starting to shave, lol.
I like anything edged and enjoy sharpening/honing.
Got it into my head to shave with a straight. Started with Iwasaki Kamisori and then purchased "KikuoKan" straight.
Maybe 10 shaves in, got my first decent shave and without cuts/nicks, lol.
Enjoying this. It is definitely a skill (shaving and honing). I encourage others to try.
Best regards and God bless.

Nothing like it, my only me time is a straight razor shave at 430am then it's all work and family till bed time. Nice razors, I've been wanting to try a kamisori

Shaving history says the straights were designed for the barber to shave you, not you shave yourself.
In 1903 Gillette changed all that with the safety razor.
So I like the new fangled contraption.

Well they shave yourself pretty good. I also enjoy shaving with safety razors.

I always think it's cool when some guys are willing to go on that journey. However, I prefer old and new safety razors as there is no maintenance involved and zero risk if you are not 100% focused or missed a spot with the strop. I get such an outstanding shave with a safety razor, I cannot fathom getting a better one with a straight. Having 15 razors from 1920's Gillettes to 1960's Gillettes and a few modern higher end razors, I'm good.

I congratulate anyone that can shave first thing in the morning with a straight razor and not remove most of their face. I do all that I can just to not scalp myself with a fresh safety razor blade. I definitely find the soap and soap preparation key to not having a bloody face upon completion.

During much of my working career, I defaulted to shaving with an electric as I was never a morning person. I could get a proper shave after work in the evening if needed. I worked in the suit and tie world where clean shaven was the standard. Blood was never a good look...

I never tried a straight razor. If I did, I'd probably check with the local ER first, to make sure they had type A+ blood in stock. I started shaving with safety razors 60-some years ago, because that's what everybody used. Then, over the years followed the trends of injectors razors, disposables, then the cartridge style. I went back to safety razors about 10 or 12 years ago, because it's just the most effective way for me to scrape hair off my face. Much cheaper than the cartridge type, too. $15 worth of Feather blades will last me well over a year.

I collect, restore, hone and use straight razors daily for my face. I also collect old DE safeties to shave my head every other day or so. I got addicted to the hunt for cool shaving stuff. My master bathroom looks like an old barber shop. I have an L shaped desk where I have the stones, tools and display cases for the straight razors.
