While looking thru the Smoky Mountain Christmas catalog this morning, I noticed a new term, DymaLux. Some of the Buck knives in the catalog were described as having DymondWood handles and others were described as having DymaLux handles. DymondWood was a registered trademark of the Rutger (edit..Rutland, not Rutger) Plywood Company which burnt down a few years ago and to my knowledge never rebuilt. Googling DymaLux I learned it is also a resin impregnated Birch laminate like DymondWood but made by Cousineau Wood Products (CWP). DymaLux.... a new term I guess we will be seeing more of in the future. /Roger

Yes, I think you are right David... It's Saturday morning and here we both are playing on the computer instead of being outside.... :)

I'm at work playing on the computer, so I can't go outside....well, maybe lunch! Makes you wonder when exactly the transition was to DymaLux, and if there will be some noticeable difference in the future.

I wonder if we will see some new colors, like black, and foliage green and oxblood?

I try to check in of a morning as throughout the day activities may prevent me from returning until later. It was just my guess. DM

I was kind of hoping they would go back to natural wood. But I understand if laminated products are tougher or cheaper to use. They look nice too.

That would be Rutland Plywood Corporation DSS.It may seem like a minor but no less important distinction.

Good information,thanks.

I just came across this company in New York state that sells something they call Webbwood, which they describe as a "replacement for Dymondwood" and which looks just the same:

I recently purchased some new-old stock Dymondwood to use on knife handles. The stuff is getting harder to find, so I'm glad to find an alternative.

I'm the sales manager for DB Webb the material listed as WebbWood.
DB Webb is a contract wood manufacture in business for about 30 years when Rutland burned we needed a material supplier for many of our customers in the knife industry as well as archery pool cues and many others. We worked with a supplier to develop WebbWood which is now a line of four different materials and we are the sole distributor.
If anybody has any questions about the material please take a look at our website www.webbwood.com
