This is the table that came with the HF 4x6 vertical/horizontal bandsaw. The table has a very large throat that allows pieces to fall down on the guide bearings and I'm worried that they might get caught in there and do some damage. I 'd like to put something more substantial in its place with a zero clearance throat. what material would you recommend, steel or aluminum and how thick?
Thanks,IMG_20171211_133004.jpg

I use 1/4" micarta, when it gets too worn easy to replace.

Just fit on top of or replace the original? Thanks much!

I use 1/4" thick steel and every couple of years cut a new slot from one of the sides.
I use the same 2 screw holes that holds the existing table on.
Ken.

I made mine out of a 12x12 quarter inch thick slab of aluminum I had laying around:

Made mine out of 1/2" thick steel because I had a piece just the right size laying around. I used the original as a template and then tossed it. Oh yeah, I had to get longer screws because of the thickness. Been on there for 8 + years. I bet it outlives the saw. LOL

Yeah, the factory table does kinda suck. Cheap ass screws that strip out for starters. I Saw one guy who built qa table out of 1/4 inch steel plate that was small enough that you could use the saw horizontally with the table attached.

That would definitely be a benefit!

Is it new that it comes with a factory table? Mine didnt come with one and its been around 4 or 5 years I have had it.

I’d be happy with a quick detach table, I tend to look all over for the screws when I try to put it back on. :(

Laid it down to try to configure a table I wouldn't have to remove, would not be much table in front of the cutting edge.
I'm thinking two screws and a bolt as it exists is probably as quick detach as I'll ever have. Not too bad though, as I mostly use it in the upright position anyway, I use a small angle grinder to cut round stock to length to save my bandsaw blade. Time to find a piece of micarta for it now.
Thanks to all for your suggestions!
