Guys,

I always wanted a zombie thread...so here's a simple one...:D

Gonna give you gun guys a heart attack....;)

If you had to choose ( no substitutions please )...:p

Which gun...AR 15 with red dot sight....or Marlin Levergun in 44 MAG with a 2.5 power scout scope? :)

You get 100 rounds of ammo.

You get 100 zombies. :thumbdn:

Discuss amongst yourselves...

Let's hear it...your reasons and why....

Well, I already own an Armalite M15A2 carbine with a red-dot by Hakko.
Trouble is the reddot sux for me, as I have an astigmatism, and I see a ghost image of the dot. Can I substitute my M15A4 with ACOG instead?
Or will an automatic surcharge be added for substitutions?
:D

That's easy: The 44Mag. I'm assuming slow zombies and urban terrain. If it's those new 28 Days Later zombies, then the AR 15.

Which is lighter?

Only going for head shots after all...and fairly close at that.

ps: Conversely...which is heavier and sturdier for when we run out of ammo and revert to using it as a club?

Look, theoretically, you could snipe the Zombies from far away with the 223. Make head shots and everything should be OK. But if things went wrong, and they got close, you can rely upon the 44 mag. It has penetration and power. You can still snipe at Zombies from 150 yards away, but you can clear a room with the mag a heck of a lot more reliably. And when you absolutely, postively have to blow off an arm about to scratch and infect you, the 44 is the one to have.

I don't really like the 100 zombies 100 shots bit. That's pretty optimistic. Some Zombies just naturally are going to require more lead. You'll have to make a lot of double shots to count- two zombies one bullet. The 300 grain 44 is the ticket. Go right through two zombie skulls. It's going to be hard for the 223 to do that.

I'd go with the .44 Mag. I'm not a fan of battery powered anything on my guns, and like guns that make bigger holes, period. Not relying on polymer tips, soft points, velocities, etc. BIG HOLES GOOD!!!

It would also look much cooler in George Romeros next zombie documentary. I could be the rustic hardcore tough guy with the lever action while everyone else runs around with thier fancy high tech little AR-15's. (then again don't those kinda dudes usually get killed in some freakish awful manner about halfway through the movie...errr..documentary?)

Hey Munk,

I did the 100 shots/100 zombies thing for a reason...

Wiht unlimited ammo/magazines....it makes the AR a sort of default because you could shoot all day....and waste ammo....indescriminately

This way every shot gotta counts...and two fers are a bonus to the true rifleman....

I figure 100 rounds is as much as I might wanna pack in a BOB...

So I went with a hundred...

The Zombie Survial Guide actually talks highly of the little .22 for zombie destruction. Cheap, available, little noise or recoil to spoil multiple shots or give away your location. As a zombie rots it's not going to take as much to put it down. The skull joints should weaken. Also, a stopping shot to central nervous system isn't going to be very hard with nothing but gooey mush protecting the spine, neck, and head. Not much in punching power though. You do want a good room clearing firearm for the up close uglies. Probably a 12ga pump loaded with magnum shells.
I digress;) I'm going with the mag. There is always the chance of a glancing blow from the round skirting the head and splitting the scalp leaving the brain intact, but the mag shouldn't skirt. Just Kaboom! and big wet hole belonging to one destroyed zombie. The trauma from the impact SHOULD kill the thing regardless of where you hit it in the head. Plus, you always want your zombie firearm to be a good club in a pinch.

Good reasoning Steely....

The 12 is always a good choice...

But i challenge anybody to shoot 100 full house 3" loads in a row...

Prolly only take 70 or so...if the zombies were close together...still I could not do it....

As I have a 44 mag revolver . (ten inch barrel ) and know the cartridge and being a firm believer in brains over braun . I would have to pick the 44 lever . Of course this might be a romantic notion . I do believe that I would like something heavy and slow to take down something heavy and slow .
Ten rounds and one up the pipe .

As for your colt spray and pray whatever . If there were a thousand zombies maybe I could see the utility . The only thing I could say about the colt is that it usually comes in a big plastic case . You could hide your head behind it in shame over needing such an overpowered weapon for what is essentially a prey that is half dead already . L:M:A:O

I just want too add that I am mostly joking about the Colt . I am a little prejudiced against it as a guy used to bring one to the range and put dimples in the armoured backstop with it . He was always told only lead rounds but he would never listen . You could see sparks flying up and I,d have to go make him stop . I hate to spoil someones fun . The dimples make the lead splatter stick instead of slide down onto the conveyor belt .

The Marlin lever. Today's AR's have so many gadgets and rails and stuff hanging off them, in addition to the handle, (s) it might just adhere to you from some sticky stuff or something.

I'd go with the levergun, just because it's a levergun. :D Plus it will make a nice stick when the ammo's gone, or you're being conservative. And, it'll look great up on the mantle once the horde has been scattered.

See? That's the kind of foresight we need to emulate!
