No Love for the Sportsman?

I recently acquired a Victorinox Sportsman and I have been quite pleased with it so far.

I feel like this model gets overlooked alongside the other 84mm models.

It has a lot of capabilities in such a small package. The usual 2 layer toolset plus a nail file, corkscrew, reamer, toothpick, tweezers, mini eyeglass driver and safety pin.

This model certainly pushed the cadet out of my rotation being about the same size with more tools. Not sure if it will replace my huntsman any time soon but I don’t think there is another Victorinox model at the moment that offers such capabilities at such a small size.

Does anybody else like the Sportsman?

I feel when carried together, the tinker and the Spartan make up 100% of what I'd need from a swiss army knife, everything else seems superfluous

Interesting. I think the Tinker Small fills a very specific niche, yet it's been discontinued. The Sportsman improves by dumping the second blade for a nail file, then downgrades with a corkscrew instead of a Phillips.

I’ve come to prefer the corkscrew. The can opener handles Philips heads better then the dedicated back Philips driver. The corkscrew is great at loosening knots and it holds the mini driver which comes in handy sometimes, I’ve even used it as a punch to disassemble a Glock.

I don't, but I bought one for my wife about 10-12 years ago. I've been meaning to pick one up, but just never got around to it. I think it would be a great addition for pocket carry. She took hers on our trip to Israel several years ago and came in quite handy.

I carry a nylon Sportsman a lot. I dismissed them for years because I don't use a file on nails. Then I realized I could pry, scrape and do things with it without harming a blade. Love it
Out for a hike this morning with one and a Swisstech liner lock.

The nail file also makes a great teeny Phillips screw driver for electronics stuff. With Vic nail files I use a small mill smooth file to make a very small flat on the pointed tip so it fits down in very small Phillips screws well. Just two or three passes will do it, you don't want to over do it. The nail file on my cadet and old classic that is a non SD tip, are my everyday small Phillips drivers.

Good idea filing the file! Thanks
