This forum has made me an Opinel fan! I started with a beechwood carbon steel No. 8, then a walnut stainless steel No. 6, and finally a bubinga stainless steel No. 8. To my disappointment, the No. 8 doesn't have the "Opinel Savoie France" logo and writing printed on the side. While I'm not sure if it's a deal breaker, I thought the Opinel logo on the side of my other two knives looked pretty cool.

What's up with that? I've seen some pics online of bubinga No. 8's that have them, and some don't. Is this a new thing?

I don't know what's up with it, but the logo is the first thing to go when I get a new Opinel, as I sand down the handle to tweak it a bit to my own liking. To me, if it has the makers mark on the blade, that's enough for me. But then, I don't like shields either. I'd be happy if none of my pocket knives had a shield, especially if it was nice stag or vivid grained wood. I'm happy with nice linseed oiled finish on nice wood. No black ink markings for me.

I am seeing the logos on the handle in vendor pics from the most prominent USA Opinel distributor, but odd thing is, the stainless & premium wood models I ordered from the same vendor didn't actually have them (I didn't mind anyway).

I have three Opi's, and only the beech/'carbone' model had it. It doesn't anymore, as I rubbed it off with a Scotch-Brite pad. The other two, in stainless and premium woods, didn't have it at all, when I purchased them.

I'm inclined to believe most purchasers likely wouldn't want it there anyway, and I suspect Opinel is sensitive to that, or at least still trying to figure out which way to go.

The Bubinga models, especially the Luxe series, are great looking folders. They can be a bit stiff to open at first, but wearing nicely with use. I have one that is sans the logo on the handle, but on Opinels USA website they show the Luxe model with a logo on the handle. They're great knives regardless.
