Does anyone know if this handle is original?

Show a pic of the top of the eye, but at first glance I would say yes.

Bottom swell area may have been carved down a little. A nice little hatchet.

Looks to me to be identical to the link handles sold at my local hardware store, but it could be original but had the fawns foot clipped off.

I've had a few of those, it does look correct. Also, many of mine have been loose so the new wedge is not a surprise. Based on the handle shape and the way it fits the eye, my opinion is that it is the original handle.

The general handle shape looks correct for an original. When new it would have been painted on top with orange paint.

When mine was new it was not paint but orange tape.

Defeinatky a oil based enamel on the ones I've had come through my hands that have the orange
