Normark Knife Identification ?

First I'd like to apologize because I don't have the equipment or knowledge to post pictures.

But maybe you Scandinavian knife guys out there can help me identify one of their knives. I've googled Normark and Rapala and haven't found it yet.

Starting with the handle; it's all black, no color on the hard plastic parts that are protruding from the interior. The exterior of the handle appears to be a wonderfully tacky rubber textured sleeve. The handle is 5" long with a palm swell, a small integral guard and just the barest amount of a pinky hook at the end. It's a hand filling handle and is one of the best ergonomic grips I've ever felt.

The only marking on the knife say Normark Stainless Sweden with the word "Stainless" in a flowing script.

The blade is a 4" clip point and is about 1 & 1/32 inch wide at it's widest point. The clip starts at the top center of the blade and is slightly curved ending with the point almost exactly on the centerline of the the blade.

While it has the familiar saber grind of a common manufactured knife it has a second wildly different grind I've never seen on a knife of this price. It's a secondary semi-hollow grind that starts right at the tip of the clip on the back of the blade with the grind line extending back a half inch and then down to meet the primary grind. From the point of it's meeting with the primary grind it actually intrudes upon that grind following the sweep of the edge of the blade and reducing the primary grind from a quarter inch to one eighth inch.

If anybody can identify this knife I would sure like to know what kind of steel it has and where I could get another one. This blade gets just super sharp and feels super nice in my hand. It came with a plastic dangler style sheath.

Thanx for any info you might have.

The knife you're describing sounds like the Mora 2000.

Go to www.ragweedforge.com (Ragnar's Forge) and look on his Swedish knives pages.

Under the heading of Mora knives, you should find a blade very similar to yours, with a light green rubberized handle.

If I have guessed wrong, there should be another knife in his catalog on the Swedish pages (Mora, Frosts, EKA) or on the Finnish pages (although he doesn't carry Marttiini, which was rebranded as Normark).

I'll be interested in knowing if this is your knife.

And, if it is, where did you get it, and do they have more?

You are probably describing a version of the Normark 'puukko'. They can be marked with either the Normark or Fiskar brand.

I believe that they stopped making them in the 1980s due to costs. I'm not sure, but Normark is either a subsidiary of Fiskars or was bought-out by them.

They do come up on eBay every so often. There is a guy that is selling a stash of leftover Fiskar Puukkos. They aren't exactly like what you want, but I recall that he occasionally sells ones with rubberized grips instead of standard hard-plastic.

Normark Corporation is an umbrella company that markets a number of brands, chief among them being Rapala.

Rapala is originally a Finnish outfit founded on fishing products -- lures primarily.

Normark & Rapala have merged (at least in the US), and share an address in Minnesota. Google is your friend here.

Oddly enough, I spoke to the Normark/Rapala people this very morning. I was looking for Normark-branded outdoor products, and I've been having increasing trouble finding them. Well, no surprise as it turns out, they've stopped selling Normark-branded hunting products.

Over the years they have re-badged blades by Mora/Frosts, EKA, Fiskars, Marttiini, and Järvenpää (and possibly others).

I have at least one of each such blade.

I was surprised to learn, in the last couple of days, that they had at one point re-badged the Mora 2000 as the "Moose Master" under the Normark brand. I was disappointed to learn they no longer did so. I was even more disappointed to learn that they no longer deal in hunting & outdoor knives at all, save for fishing knives.

I would really like to see a picture of this knife you have.

Really.

And then I'd like to get my hands on one.

any canadians here, Normark knives, or rapala can be found at CDN tire, cheap too and not made in china.

The ones in their online catalog seem to be re-badged Marttiini knives from their MN(x) series of hunting knives. I have most, if not all, of that line (and two or three of some).

The OP's description of his knife
It's a secondary semi-hollow grind that starts right at the tip of the clip on the back of the blade with the grind line extending back a half inch and then down to meet the primary grind.
only seems to fit the Mora 2000, whose blade has that secondary grind.
