Nothing like putting your new knife through the washing machine

After several weeks of anticipation I received a package from Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. Opening the box from Burger Knives I unzipped the soft cases on two fine Exkelibur EXK 1 Kits - one with black G10 handles and the other with the camo G10. Wow, very nice knives! The camo folder went straight into my pocket after pulling the pocket clip.

Two days later I'm getting used to the knife and instead of pulling it from my pocket when I did the usual pocket dump I wanted to handle it some more so I left it in my pocket.

Saturday comes along and the wife is doing a load of laundry and says "I wonder what that noise is..." Ahh, I know what it is! Well I have to wait for the cycle to finish before I can check for damage. First thing that goes through my mind is "440C blade!" Then I recover from that and the next thing in my mind is "what if it comes open and slices and dices our clothes!?" I'm a dead man.

Fortunately it stayed in the pants pocket for the cycle. When I removed it it sure was shiny! Great way to remove any left over shop dirt and initial pocket lint.

About 30 minutes later I'd taken it down using the supplied tools and cleaned, waxed, oiled, and touched up the blade. Good as new! Wait it was new...well, better than new! Now I've got more familiarity with it and appreciation for the pivot design. :D

Heh, glad it worked out for you. I've had some miracles for sure over the years, but the machines have eaten their fair share of things too.

Ive done that accidentally with old slippies I picked up at the flea market and it cleaned them up great. These even went through the dryer!Just oiled em up good and they were fine.--KV

Washing machines aren't quite as friendly on Ti slabs though :) I can attest to that . . . But I have one of those GE top loaders that acts more like a front loader - stainless steel tub and the spin cycle is VERY fast

My old BM 910 Stryker has had many a carnival ride in our washer through the years. My wife now goes through my uniform pockets thoroughly before she does a load. . .

My small Sebenza has been through the washer and dryer dozens of times over the last decade. Looks exactly the same before and after.

I've been obsessing over that EXK1 with the camo G10 since I first saw it. I have the same knife with the black G10 and it is in my top 3 knives.

I will be in Durban after Christmas and will probably be taking a trip down the south coast - I know if I get within 100km of the Burger workshop I am screwed. Must be strong... the children, think of the hungry children.
