What is it? Is it just another word for micarta?

I've only heard it used in conjunction with Snakeskin.

I don't know if the actual physical makeup of it is any different than micarta, it looks and feels a lot like regular micarta. I've always thought of it as "nuclear micarta"

:D:D

Hmm. But is it different stuff or is it the same thing as canvas micarta?

My understand is it's canvas micarta... many manufactures have tried to duplicate it... as far as I know they all failed and it's in a limited supply, probably never to be duplicated again.

It's canvas micarta that's layered with different colors of canvas. It is then cut extremely precisely to various layers creating the color pattern.

So, if I get a knife with snakeskin nukarta, it would be the same as getting one with snakeskin micarta?

Also, is there a reason that I only hear the "snakeskin nukarta" and not "tan nukarta"?

Thanks.

well poop!

i know the green is linen
the snake is linen too (i think pretty sure)
black comes in paper and canvas
tiger seems to be linen but could be canvas

It is all canvas micarta. There is nothing special about it besides the unique coloring.

The reason that it has it's own name is that Jerry Busse got the company that makes it to agree to sell it only to him for a certain time period.

That said, I guess it is pretty special.

IIRC, it's only a trademark/technical difference. Same makeup, it's just that micarta is (I recall) a westinghouse trademark, so if it's not made by them then it's not "micarta".

Snake skin and tiger stripe are both canvas micarta. That's straight from the Combat site. Emailed once with that very question. And, of course, they replied the next day. What customer service!

Personally I perfer the snake skin over all the various types. I would of course like to get a green linen. EDC green linen handles on a AD or HD would be nice to check out, up close and personal. The pics I've seen of the green linen EDC handles are very cool. It's strange how the color of the handles change with the different sizes. An EDC snake skin looks very different than a TAC or SF handle with snake skin. Very cool!
