Does anyone have any thoughts or opinions about O6 steel? How does it forge and grind? Also, does anyone know any suppliers for it?

Thanks

O-6 is an excellent tool steel but it isn't the best for knives since it is a Graphitic tool steel [contains graphite for free machining] and a bit brittle .It was developed by Timken ,and yes the guys at Timken did make knives from it. If you want something of Timken's that makes a great knife steel use BG-42.

Mete, The last time I picked up steel at my supplier I was showed where there dumpster was. I got a number of industrail steel cutting bandsaw blades. One of two of the blades had O-2 stamped on them. Should I assume thats what they are? Now that I know where the dumpster is my ass will become a common sight in it....

Raymond, you should hang out in better neighborhoods ! Yes it's probably O-2.

If you can actually obtain some real O2, mix it with some L6 or 15N20 for a very high contrast damascus. The O2 will be very dark etch, due to it not having the small amount of Chrome that O1 contains.

Mete, Thanks!

Danbo, The main reason I got it was for future damascus. I'm trying to get stocked up while waiting for my Ron Claiborne press.
