Obenauf's shelf life

Today I applied a coat of Obenauf's heavy duty LP to some leather goods and noticed it had a rancid odor. The can is maybe 2-3 years old and I haven't used it in a year or so. I don't remember it smelling like this. It smells like rancid grease, kinds like the stove hood. It's not sickening but certainly not pleasant.

Is there a shelf life? Other than the smell, it seems fine. Any tips on sweetening up the smell so the neighborhood cats don't follow me around? Maybe a drop of lemon extract ? Yeah I know, I'm sensitive!

Try heating it up with a blow dryer or something by heating up the plastic tub, don’t point it inside it goes everywhere trust me. Maybe that will help. I tried the stuff a year or two ago but didn’t really like it actually it is too much for most normal use leather items. Clogs the pores and gets In the stitching and looks bad on top of that it doesn’t polish over easily. Even if heated and allowed to soak in. But those are my thoughts. Oh and try mixing it while it’s warm. It’s a mixture of stuff so sometimes like any mixture it can separate out and just needs a good mixing. If that doesn’t help with the smell, I would say get a new tub of it. In the end I would rather pay a little extra more to get a fresh tub then worry about it ruining/ damaging the leather.
