OBM grinder & file guide question

I would avoid aluminum. It will easily wear down and you will quickly get an uneven surface.
I'd suggest looking into some pyroceramic glass instead. There are threads here discussing this

Its going behind the platen just as a spacer. How would it wear down?

I'm looking to do this basically. At 1:19

I saw one video of a guy who bumped the platen out 3/4 of a inch using alumium bar stock due to the file guide not having enough clearance.
Has one one done this?

Will something like this work?

I understand what you ask but I don t understand how that AL plate will give you more clearance behind belt?? Clearance behind belt depends on shape of part which hold idler wheels not from thickness of plate behind belt ? Whatever thickness it is ,that part stay right behind belt and you always have same distance between belt and part that hold idler wheels , so ?
