ehhh....I like the 104s so I had to add this one as I have all the others versions...im not loving it though. we already had a d2 run sk did. different steel would have been good. a true stainless would have been unique in this run.

side note...didnt get the email on this release this time. always normally do. thanks to Tecate Tecate or would have missed this one.

another side note just got the announcement emails for it. weird delay.

What a burn to Sk Blades.

Yeah... it's makes me wonder if it was intentional, in his October SK newsletter, Steve said the following:

" Currently, I have attempted to reach out to the head of the Specials Projects multiple times without a response. I think physically marching into the Factory is going to be the only way I get some actual answers as to when special projects will resume."

Payback for the "grief"? I would like not to think that Buck would do such a thing intentionally. But it does make one wonder....

Looks like the exact same blank. It has the full flat grind, instead of the standard 104 hollow grind. :/

I would definitely prefer the looks and feel of the Micarta on the SK version over G10 and I've not had good luck with Cerakote coated blades. Uncoated S30V, S35V, or 20CV would have been great on this knife.

I think I'll stick with the SKBlades version. The price is pretty great on the BotM in my opinion though.

I ordered one as I like the flat grind 104.
But I agree that this is B. S. for Buck to shut out SK blades and then sell basically the same knife.

Are they so busy right now that they can justify doing this to their loyal retailers?
I have been a Buck fan due to the perceived character of the company.
Character? If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck.......

That knife only existed because SK took the time to poll us here for our feedback.

I've slowed down in my Buck purchases lately.
I dunno, I'll have to think about this one.

Steve @ SK is a great guy.

I received a text several hours ago saying the BOM was coming out but it didn't appear in my email until 4:30 EST. Weird. Yep, Stephen has to be shaking his head a little on this release.

That's a sweet knife with a nice sheath too!
Thanks Steve!
There are a number of us here that support you!!!

if I was gonna pick between the two I'd pick the sk one. I have 2 of them and they are fantastic Buck knives.

I'm gonna bet Buck had extra blanks from the sk run and here we are. no idear though, just assumptions and assumptions can make me into the first 3 letters of the word.

I bought one... if nothing else it's the first time I've been able to acquire a BOTM, usually they are sold out within an hour of the email notice being sent. I already have the SK version... I agree, it's a great knife, I see this as just another variant to add with it, just as the multiples of the 119's I have in different features (5160, S30V, flat grind, etc.).

But... if Buck does this again by releasing a D2 212 ranger... I'll pass, because that will lead me more to believe that Buck does have an axe to grind with SK, and I standby the underdog.

I think you’re probably right. If they were just leftover from the run... No harm, no foul (in my opinion), although I’m sure Steve would have had zero issues selling the extras. However, if Buck starts making a D2, full flat grind 104 as part of their regular offerings (like they did with the BotM 112 in ebony and S30V), I’m going to have to seriously consider the direction Buck has recently been moving in, even more than I have been lately.

I’ve been a huge fan of Buck (hell, I took a break from our honeymoon to tour their factory) and have gone out of my way to promote them on social media on numerous occasions, but I have been pretty disappointed with some of the recent decisions. Even more disheartening was seeing John Foresman and Larry Oden stepping down from leadership of the Buck Collector’s Club, not to mention the departure of Mr. Cooper from Buck. :(
