There are not as many options as I thought there would be for current makers of hobo knives. The case version looked very nice but was just too expensive for me at this point for my purposes. I ended up going with the Ka-Bar version. It seems to be pretty good quality for what I paid separates easily into the different tools. The knife has a backlock. The spoon and fork are slip joint based. It comes with a very nice case. I'm happy overall and it's going with me this weekend camping.

The other options that were available included an Opinel and Boker but both had keep leading me back to the Ka-Bar as the best choice in my price range.

If you have a hobo knife, show yours off.

My Hobo is undoubtedly my most used knife as I eat lunch with it every work day in my truck.

I just have this A.G. Russell Boxcar Jack. I like how the halves won't separate unless the fork is opened. That way you can use the blade for non-food related tasks and not worry about the halves accidentally separating in use.

Can you still buy the Case version new?
I got into them this year and bought four in a month no problem. Not as hard as scoring new GEC's and very affordable I thought. I don't know if the models are still in production now at least the two blade ones that I prefer (blade+fork). I know most of the ones I got were new condition but older or at least past runs. You can find them on EBAY without too much trouble. I have a few other Case knives various years and I found the Hobos to be excellent fit and finish compared to any brand of traditional. I love them.

I would think that a "hobo" knife or camping combo could be found at an affordable price point at Academy, REI or som other outdoor supply store.
