Some knife porn, all have custom scales...

That turned out great. I may have to try the Jasco and leave an old set of scales on it. Thanks for sharing!

No pictures yet, but received my two, new BK18 Harpoons this am. Absolutely outstanding! These are now my new EDC knives, riding abaft my two Ruger Super GP100's, riding in their DeSantis Gunhide Hybrid cross-draw holsters. FINALLY, my personal system is complete, and I'm ready for TEOSAWKI, at the very least...

Mr. Becker, I hope you read the notes here, for you have, again, created a true masterpiece. The Harpoon is perfect for guys like me, that have small hands. This is perfect for me, in so many ways. Much lighter than my BK2, 9, 10, and BK21, works of art, my little collection is, for now, complete. With those listed, most conceivable needs are met. Though I love all my Becker, Ka-Bar, and EK knoves, these two, my BK18's, are my favorite. Purchased them from TOMAR's Ka-Bar Knives, and could not be happier, than with their service, price, and professionalism. They do for sale of Ka-Bar knives, what you do in creating blade perfection. Thank-You, Sir...

Not only do Becker Knives work for a living, they're beauty and perfection- in one package...

They’re the official KA-BAR dyed brown.
Thank you sir ! If i may ask another question , did you use paint stripper/remover to strip the powder coat finish and etch the finish after ? Sorry for all the questions, I'm looking for a bone cancer recovery project, didn't have much time to research removing the coating and finishing options. I've seen certain etch jobs from mild to wild, looking for a finish like your BK18.

Happy to provide my insights.

First, I hope you are feeling well and on the road to health and recovery. :)

You can find a complete description of my dyeing process on post #40 here:
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/kephart-micarta-handles.1722088/page-2

To strip the coating, I used Jasco. Jasco is nasty stuff, I put the knife in a throw away aluminum tin and do this in a part of my yard where nothing grows and it’s only dirt. In this instance, I left the original scales on so the protective coating would stay underneath. The Jasco didn’t affect the original Becker scales, but it will melt some types of rubber and plastic. Choose a warm day, Jasco doesn’t work well in the cold, saturate both sides of the blade (use a twig to flip the knife), and let it sit for a half an hour. I check then, use a sliver of bamboo to scrape off what I can without actually holding the knife, and hit it with Jasco again for another round. I keep doing this till the coating is all off and then I spray everything down with a garden hose. Then I dry the knife and it’s good to go. Any small remnants of the coating can generally be scrapped off with a sliver of bamboo.

I hope this helps. :)

Wow. Just noticed this. Just the other day I was thinking if there would be a new Becker. Since I have lots of knives, I'm going to wait and see one in person before I buy. I want to handle it first.

The BK-18 Harpoon is the trailing point knife for those who don't think (or know) that they really like a trailing point ... which, BTW, is a very useful blade shape.

It's like the BK15 and BK17 had a baby!
That is my sense of things. Looking forward to seeing one in the flesh. If this Covid thing continues with the stay at home order, I may just order one. I suspect I will like it since I like trailing points. Is the blade thickness the same as the tweeners?

What a great job stripping and refinishing that Harpoon!

I love trailing points, the 5 and the 15 are, well were until the 18, my favorites.

so, apparently asking a 15% premium for a dealer exclusive on the BK18 in normal Becker colors was not the big seller someone expected them to be, so they're on sale by that same exclusive dealer -- just in case anyone wants a solid black harpoon at a more reasonable price.

They just re stocked those. They ran out a month ish ago. If they drop them below $70 like they did the peanut butter ones, I might have to pick one up.
I beg your pardon, "Dark" peanut butter

I joined the club. I noticed that there seems to be a preference here for the black, as I had. Curious if it's just here, or if the general public would have preferred a choice? Thank you Ethan and Kabar. I had been wanting a tweener, either the 15 or 16. When I saw the 18 and did some looking around for reviews, I was sold. Really pleased now that it's in my hand. It fits the "hole" in my stable. While I was at it, I upgraded my handles on the BK7 to the factory micarta. Now my stable has a BK20 safe queen, 2x BK4, BK5, BK7, an old and a new ramora, and now my BK18.
As has been mentioned in previous posts, the ergonomics of this knife are so sweet. Just enough weight. Perfect balance in the hand. It's at home in the kitchen, as it is cutting wood. I'm as proud of this purchase as knocking out the bullseye on the pistol course.
