OK, how about big leaf maple?

Pacific Big Leaf maple grows in my backyard: We cut this wood in 1995. A nice long air cure!

No finish or oil on the wood shown, just a little sanding or planning.

Good find!

I used to turn bowls and build furniture, my wood supply didnt seem so huge back then.. but now that all of that wood just gets cut in to knife handle blocks it seems I have enough to last me a lifetime!

I know a couple guys here in British Columbia that do live edged slab sales. Boards like these would go for $800-$1500 depending on the grain and size of the board. You have some amazing wood there.

I watch the search term "burl" on craigslist and find old tables or clocks like the one the OP posted here. Pick them up for $25-50 and cut them up and get numerous blanks for Native American Flutes and knife handles for a dollar or so a blank. Send the handle blanks out to K&G for stabilization. I am getting beautiful stabilized maple burl blanks for about $6 each.
