OKC-3S as a Survival Knife?

Does anyone here know how well the new(ish) Marine bayonet would perform as a survival knife? Or how it would compare to a traditional Ka-bar?

Far stronger than a kabar, and will perform nicely as a survival knife, imho. I prefer not to have serrations on a survival knife, as they interfere with bushcraft skills like whittling, etc. That's the only shortcoming. But I have owned and played with one, and it was a very, very nice blade.

There are many other knives that will do much better, though. The OKC-3S was designed as a combat/utility blade rather than a real "survival knife," so compromises exist. Hope this helps!

Thanks for answering my noobish questions... But I have another. What purpose-built blades would do better than the OKC-3S?

Saerosangk,

That's along answer depending on what you'll be using it for mostly, what other tools you may or may not have, etc. Click on the link to my foum in my signature - you have great reading and constant discussion on the subject. You'll enjoy it, and we have a lot of very knowledgeable people there!
