Olamic whippersnapper

I personally think it is too much, I would not be going over maybe $400 for a knife without things like engravings and special materials, no plain Ti.

I can get any blade reground by hand, way I see. But you might think I paid too much for a $300 Espada XL aluminum. However, your buy cannot be validated by me. It is a great knife, I say, but not $700 great, to me.

Tells you all you need to know right there.........
It actually doesn’t tell me anything. If I over payed or under payed or if it was fair I’d love to know. If this is representative of blade forum community that’s sad. I’ve had nothing but great experiences on Reddits knife swap.
Sorry I’m inexperienced in knives and just want to learn more about things and what to look for.

Here you need to be a paid member to ask about valuation.

Hey Mama, I don't think he is asking for appraisal, I think it is more like a bit of buyers remorse, and he wants opinions and validation, not number values. The original query was "Did I pay too much or am I a dumbass?" though I can see why the phrase "fair price" set off alarms here.

This is actually a very helpful place, but it’s hard to help with just a link to another thread and no context. You could have just bumped that other thread instead f creating a new one. I know there are a few Olamic aficionados here, but it’s very possible if you posted on a particularly busy day, your thread could have fallen off the front page before anyone knowledgeable saw it.

It also might have been more beneficial for you to have asked that question before you bought.

If I may, you paid $600.00 for a knife that you wanted. It must have been worth it if that’s what you paid. If you plan on using it, use the hell out of it. If you bought it as an investment and you take less than $600.00 for it then you are a dumb ass. Happy to help

There are a few members that are being WAY to harsh for someone simply asking for other knife enthusiasts opinion. It’s a really fair question and I don’t know why people are jumping all over this guy.

I’m somewhat familiar with the Olamic market and I think you paid around a fair price for what these go for. Olamic does lose value on the secondary market in most cases that I’ve seen. The last release of whippersnappers were $600-$1300 I believe.

What John Phillips said above matches my experience, as far as Olamic pricing.

As far as the "or am I a dumbass" part, I'll just add that thats a different question, which gets to the difference between price and value. Do you like it? Does it suit your needs? If you bought it as an investment, that was probably a bad idea, but that's true of knives in general. I have a Whippersnapper and rather like it a lot - mine was worth it to me.

You didn't get taken for a ride, if that was your concern. But whether it was "worth it" is something you have to decide.

I have several Olamic knives, but no Whippersnapper. I've been looking for one that I like on the Exchange at a good price, I'm still looking for the right one. Obviously I think Olamic are good knives and worth something, none of them are inexpensive, though.

I've found it odd Olamics lose their value so much. They're great knives, some prices are a tad high, but not that crazy compared to the competition.

Their styling, funky blade profiles, colors, holes drilled everywhere appearance is a specific taste that many might not like. They may be built to perfection which I can appreciate but I can’t get past the look of them.

Fair enough. I love their rainmaker, swish, and wayfarer designs. There are variations of each of those models I do not like the look of though.

They seem to go for around $650 - $1,000 new, depending on options, so $600 doesn't seem totally out of line for a LNIB example. That said, I have no idea what the secondary market is for them.
