Hi, guys!

What are the differences between the older and the newer Killian designed 172? I've seen the word "forged" describe the new one; was the older one not forged?

If you guys had the choice, which one of the two would you prefer?

Thanks!

The original 172 tomahawk was laser cut from steel. The new 172BKF that is forged has contouring around the the edges and is a little more robust.

Not as sharp among other things. The first BM model has 1095 steel and the new model is 4140. If I remember right the original K5 Tactical was in 1055 steel. The first BM model was very similar to the K5 in design, but vastly improved with G10 scales, 1095 steel, and the crowbar style end at the end of the handle. The first BM model has an appleseed beveled edge (convex) whereas the new model is forged and doesn't have much of anything for an edge. IMHO the original is the better of the two, however they both are heavy. The new model is no more than a breaching tool whereas you can actually chop with the first model. Chop with a tomahawk? What a novel concept.;)
