Hey guys, I just stopped in a local pawn shop and ran across what I think is an old Benchmade butterfly knife but wanted to check with you all. It is 11" overall and barely over 6" closed. It has the typical "butterfly on one side of the blade and says "Bali Song" on top of it, and on the other side just Bali Song USA. The blade is also sharpened on top about halfway down it. The price is $125 out the door. I think I'm going to go grab it. What do you guys think? Thanks for any and all information!

Do a quick Google search of how to spot fakes, there are loads of them out there. Saved me from getting ripped off one time.

If you decide to buy it, haggle with them. It's a pawn shop. Try to get the knife price lowered. I bet you could get it for about 65% to 75% of the price they are asking for it. Doesn't hurt to try. But only buy it if you feel confident that it is legit.

Well I picked it up, and I tried $75, then $100, but he was stuck on $125 since he originally wanted $250. There isn't a whole lot to be found about it...Here it is:

My pawn shop finds are bountiful. This includes BM 30, BM 42, mini socom elite, and an assailant 2. Just recently saw a couple old Emerson's .

You can find gold in pawnshops if you look

I agree, I don't like the look of those grinds. Is it a light reflection or are the grinds not straight? I am no expert on old Balisong/Benchmade but it looks suspicious to these untrained eyes. Are the handles SS or Ti?

That looks fake to me, the blade grinds don't look
very distinct, I might be wrong though..

Looks like he just learned a $125.00 lesson which could have been avoided if he just took pics first and posted them here.

Having no patience can really screw you sometimes.

Hey Boosted,

I know nothing about Balisongs, but I am sure if you take some good detailed photos and send them to Benchmade or ever post them in the Benchmade forum someone can tell you if it is a real Benchmade or not. I really hope that it is. But if you are happy with it, then I guess it doesn't matter if its fake or not as long as you like it. Wish you the best with this.

JJ

It's a Jody Samson and traded. My patience got a NIB brass Ultratech, NIB blue Ultratech, and nib tanto UTX70

I might have to take a road trip. The pawn shops in Tucson have a whole lot of Cutlery Corner specials. Buy a 100 knives for 92 cents a piece. :barf:

Those early Pacific Cutlery balis were nice. The big ones were done by Jody Samson and are worth a lot of money. Looks like you did pretty good Boosted. I'm guessing the sharpened swedge was done by one of it's owners and I have no idea of it's affect on what it is worth.

As long as you are happy, and it appears you got 3 Microtechs for $125! A good deal anyday.
