Which one do like better? I have always carried an Old Timer and never really cared for Uncle Henry's until after the closing and now I think I like the Uncle Henrys better. I am so confused.:D

For the most part, other than the appearance of Saw Cut Delrin (Old Timers) vs Staglon (Uncle Henry), which was the same material, the big difference is 440 Stainless Steel on Uncle Henry (SCHRADE+) vs 1095 High Carbon Steel on Old Timers (SCHRADE). There were some Old Timers that were made with stainless steel. For the most part, the patterns used the same frames, with a few exceptions, and a more than a few anomalies.

Most of the differences were in edge holding, tarnishing, and ease of maintenance. I like having at least one of each. As with many things, I feel older is better.

"They don't make em' like they used to."

The plasti-stag handles on the UH knives are a big turn-off for me. I have a couple of Uncle Henrys as 'examples', but I have no interest in collecting them extensively.

I personally am an old timer guy, just so many different patterns and such to collect and the ot's seem a little easier sometimes to find at least for me.. And my very first knife was an ot. I think the cheesy fake stag on the uh's is what makes me like them though. I know that may sound weird but I cant explain it either. But If I had to vote one way or the other I go OT. just my 2 cents. -Joel

I use a 61OT for my work every dayer due to its larger size and i like the narrow clip blade is Prefference to the 8OT, and i use a 897UH for my dress knife coz its just that bit smaller to have on your belt when going out socially. as we hold our knives in open slide pouches, ill post a pic of our self made leather pouches when i get gold status through. But i love them both, my only gripe is we cut alot of food fruit plants being on the land and the carbon steel stains badly and downgrades the apperance, just means i have to service me knife more. stainless in large stockmans would be the only thing id change in schrade.

It would be a better contest if they were all in Sambar Stag and Sawcut Bone. For trying to look like sawcut bone, the delrin could be a little cheesy too. For a bone knife, I would prefer Peachseed Jigged. And if it's a plastic vote, I like jigged delrin on the open stocks better than either of the Uncle Henry and Old Timers.

Why choose? I've carried an 897UH daily for years and worked them hard. I also like the carbon steel knives. If you want a stainless Old Timer, just buy one in the last package. As far as the appearance of the handle materials, I don't really give it much thought. If you want stag or bone... they made them. but the OT and UH lines were never meant to be fancy and expensive. America works with Schrade.

Yes. In the end, most of the OT lines were changes over to stainless, including the Sharpfinger and many pocketknives.

It does take a careful look-see since Taylor closely copied these boxes down to the flag for the first imports.

I am with Joel on this, it was the cheesy looking handles that first turned me off with the Uncle Henry's but now I really like it. I am still primarally an OT guy will be getting some more UH as money permits.
