An how many times did ya stick yer nose?

(Note to MODERN knife nuts: we did NOT have Spydercos or anything really SHARP for this activity)

But....we did it AT SCHOOL. Yeh, KNIVES at school. And the teacher KNEW about it. We even sharpened pencils IN CLASS with ....KNIVES!!!!

:)

Every guy in my high school carried a pocket knife. No rules against it there (for men, anyway) even today....of course, I was there only four years ago, I suppose.

I guess that we didn't play the real thing. We had a game where you through a pointed object to stick in the ground as close as possibe to the other guy's foot. If you hit him you lost. Each round the guy who got the closest without hitting the other guy won. Commonly this was played with nice long wooden pencils. Screwdrivers worked well. Common pocket knives were too short. The tough guys used switchblades.

You have no idea how hazardous the leather punch (awl) on my camp knife could get!

There's an old thread on this: Mumbly Peg

We had a game we called "Stretch" (we used fruit knives). each toss outside of the two feet (either side). The foot was moved to the knife. No more than 2" from the foot. As one "stretched" wider and wider, the winner was still standing with his legs really spread wide apart.

Then we went the other way and called it "split". Toss the knife to the inside of the foot. Begin as wide as one could sretch their feet. move the foot to the knife. It got interesting when the feet got close together. Some of the really brave did it barefooted.

Ooooooh, Sal, I remember that. Forgot it. Yeah, stretch. I always found a way to fall over. Overachiever I guess.

An throwin for distance. After watchin a Zorro or Jungle Jim movie.

:D

I played the same version as Sal and Jeff. Thought it was Mumbly Peg. Went to the link above to read the rules and decided after the third feat I remembered I am ADHD and went on to three other tasks.

I guess Sal, Lavan and myself are of that same age bracket; yes I get AARP Magazine. Went to a parochial grade school in a small town and at recess we played Splys/Stretch all of the time. And that was back in the days when nuns controlled the school and school yard. Now you'd be kicked out of school because of "Zero tolerance Policy".

Of course, back then, my buddies and I had BB gun fights all of the time. The fact that all of us still have 2 eyes is a testament to the fact that there are truly Guardian Angels "flying Wingman" for idiots.

I'm also a member of AARP.:). I didn't play mumblety peg too much, but I did get pretty good at flippin' a knife pretty high into the air and catching it...Usually without the knife sticking in my hand.:D.

I'm of a younger age bracket, but I used to play a game similer to Jeff Clark's description, but we had to flip the knife in the air. Now that I think about it, we did some stupid stuff as kids.

What Sal describes I thought was mumbelty Peg We use to see how far we could get the other guy to stretch his legs till he fell over.... and was the loser...

Man, you guys are old.

Wait! I...do....remember one kid. Tossed his knife under the lawn aerator and it poked a hole in the blade that he used to open it. Wonder what ever happened to him.

;) ;) ;)

Hey now....I've seen you in your video. Are you really young and just had an extremely hard life?

Besides, my definition of "old" is now triple digits.

Hmm... never played any of these (yet...) but I have heard of friends playing split and russian roulette. Our version of roulette is you take a knife and stab in between every finger, getting faster and making your fingers closer. A couple have scars to show for their loses...

If I ever play these though, I'm not supplying the knife. They're all too sharp lol.
