Hi Guys,
These Olight rechargeable lanterns have not been around very long. I've just ordered one from Olight Canada, and was wondering if anybody else has tried one yet. There are only a few reviews/comments online.
A warning ... their website is the buggiest and most flawed one I have ever had to negotiate. It took me two full evenings to negotiate it, and I am experienced online shopper. But, based on the "Influencers' Reviews", my Herculean efforts may well be worth it.

If this lamp can be readily recharged off-grid with a "basic" $150 solar panel setup, it would seem to be about perfect for ... just about everything!

For a lantern, I am a huge fan of the Sofirn LT1. It is a simply awesome lantern and it will charge up a dead cellphone too!

I don't know about the lantern, but I have several Lights. I just pulled a pair in shorts out of the laundry and found my Single AAA Olight still clipped to the pocket. Put a new battery in it and it is good

The lantern arrived two days ago, and I am totally impressed. Definitely worth the money ... the way the lighting is arranged is tomorrow's state-of-the-art LED technology, today. It amazing how far LED lighting has come.

The lamp is physically a bit smaller than you might expect, but that in no way diminishes its performance. Everything feels substantial and rock-solid. The on-off switch clicks on and turns with an oily smoothness as the illumination gradually morphs from candlelight to medium candlelight to bright candlelight (the orangey LED's look like three tiny vertical 2.5 cm neon tubes suspended within the lamp ... plus there are four more normal orange LED "potlights" on the "ceiling" ... along with the 16 warm-white LED's (in a ring but not visible on the same ceiling of the chamber) that kick-in after the bright orange wanes ... and start to add their glow and power ... until it all looks like a "normal" warm white incandescent light bulb. The transitions are seamless.

Everything seems top-dollar ... the glass globe looks and feels like it's about 2 mm thick. And is protected with a stout metal cage. Everything else is metal, too. And it's held together with Torx screws ... not cheap-ass rivets.

Bottom line? Those of you who follow Wranglerstar on Youtube will totally understand when I say that it definitely gives me the fizz.

One important heads-up/warning. The lantern comes with one charging cord (and no power block), and (unlike most charging cords) it is the little USB-C connectors at both ends. Like most of y'all I have a big selection of charging cords and power blocks/sources ... but they all have at least one standard full-sized USB connector.

I was suddenly SOL.

Fortunately, the lantern also has an alternate provision (on its bottom) to use a magnetic charging cable (equipped with a standard full-sized USB plug) to connect with all the widely common standard full-sized USB power source ... my 21" iMac ... and a whole bunch of other electric interfaces.

But such a cord is not included with the lantern ... :(

But ... just as fortunately, the Olight Odin Mini weapon-light that I bought a few months ago was provided with one of Olight's magnetic charging cables with the crucial standard full-sized USB connector at the other end, and it worked fine (charging from my iMac) on the lantern. However, the magnetic connector takes longer ... apparently 10 hours "to fill an empty tank" as opposed to four hours with the supplied corded double USB-C cable. So, buyers should be aware of this and make sure they have something (on hand) that works.

EDIT - August 28 - Here's a well-done and accurate review. Worth noting ... this guy's lantern apparently came with Olight's magnetic-connector charging cord. Mine (as noted in my comment) did not. Mine just had the double USB-C connecting cord.

It's also turned-out to be the most wonderful bedside lamp.

1. It's short, and the (very expensive-feeling) rotary switch/rheostat is on its base ... at the perfectly optimal mattress-level height. You just reach out and it readily "falls-to-hand".

2. The switch is silent, so you don't awaken the super-model sleeping (in a dreamy post-coital bliss) alongside you.

3. The warm glow of (adjustable) candlelight is somehow intimate and old-timey comforting, and is all you really need to find your way back to bed.

Off-grid, or otherwise ...

Those newer technology led lights and lanterns are the cats meow. I have mostly Fenix stuff including the lantern but do have a couple of Olights. Good equipment. It just gets better and better, brighter and more efficient as years pass

In the immortal word (and voice) of the great Samuel P. Elliot, "Yup."
(The first Fenix TK40 was outrageous for its time ... both in price and performance ... powered by eight AA Eneloops! I bought two. One was a gift for an awesome friend.)

They still work fine.

I just ordered one of these for my mom and am not thrilled to hear about that charging cable.

Can I get fixed up with an adapter of some sort at Walmart or the like?

Your mom will love it!

Getting a cable should be simple ... my rural small town drug store (part of a larger chain) had a rack full of them for less that $10. All you require is a cord with the little new-style USB-C connector at one end (to plug into the lamp) and a standard full-sized USB connector at the other end. And, naturally, something in your home or vehicle with the standard full-sized USB charging port (I use my iMac) ... or a little power block (plugged into an electrical outlet) with that same port.

Let us know what she thinks of it!

Thanks so much! I'm not giving it to her for a couple weeks, but I will be sure to update!

I got her one of the little O Bulbs they make too!

Hey! Not to bother you some more, but I bought myself a Warrior Mini 2 and it seems to be taking forever for it to get "fully charged" as in , the red indicator light goes off and the green comes on.

I figured after like, 8 hours or so, I would be seeing that green light.

Any insight is welcome, of course! 😁

Sorry, but I can't be of any help. Maybe try posting the same question in a suitable section of the Candlepower Forum ... lots of tech savvy electrical wizards on that website!

Charge rates vary so, with bigger capacity batteries, it can take a while. Charging my cellphone off my laptop takes all night plus some but, on a good AC charger, ~30 minutes will get it to 80%.

Those have a battery which seems to be current limited in the charge rate. Reddit r/flashlights is a great place for question like this as well. Be careful though or you will be collecting flashlights too!

That forum is also great for learning about batteries, chargers, and all the other related tech.

Hey! What about that update that you kinda promised?
Alright, Ron, you got me. 😁

The reality is that the lantern and Obulb have been sitting virtually unused. We haven't had any power outages or anything like that, so Mom hasn't used the stuff at all.

I still want an Obulb of my own but haven't pulled the trigger yet.

So, pretty boring update.
