Online knife retailers and Paypal..

I was wondering, how come some of the online knife shops don't offer Paypal? I asked BladeHQ about this, and they said that Paypal will not work with them since they are a knife dealer!

I live in Norway, and knife prices are quite extreme here. For example, in one of the very few (Like.. 2.) online stores that deal mostly in knives, the SOG Tomcat 3.0 CF costs 730$, while it costs around 298$ on Amazon.

BladeHQ, along with NewGraham, do not offer Paypal - so, I was wondering, are there any other well established and respected online knife stores that do offer Paypal options (and has experience with shipping worldwide.)?

The only ones I know of that accept Paypal are: Lamnia.fi (Finnish site, but they sell knives at around or close to US prices.) Knifecenter and Knifesupply. Are there any more?

(I wasn't sure where to post this - if this is the wrong section, I apologize.)

That makes zero sense considering the countless number of knives available from a large number of vendors on eBay.

Try looking into Canadian companies, there is a lot of them based out in Ontario (east coast) so it would most likely be closer to you than anything in the middle of the states. Not sure if shipping would be the same or not though. Worth a try.

Agreed. I use PayPal to get most of my knives.

OP, if you prefer to use PayPal only, you can get a PayPal debit card that uses money from your PayPal account on any website you want. All the perks of using PP, without worrying about which sites allow it.

Interesting. Thank you. But aren't there any other knife sites with Paypal options?

Also, I came across this at gpknives.com:

"Why We Hate Paypal
In the past we accepted Paypal thinking it was a friendly alternative to credit cards. Unfortunately Paypal has held and seized funds from us, witholding our hard earned money until their demands were met. All over the sale of Balisongs and other pointy "dangerous" objects. Since we obviously want to sell these types of products, we have opted to remove Paypal from our website. You'll notice a fair amount of our competitors have done the same.

Do the community a favor and use a more knife friendly payment solution. They don't support us, so why should we support them?"

Since they specifically mentioned balisongs, it makes me wonder if the Paypal trouble is due to Balisongs and Auto's, which are illegal in many, many places. If this is the case, could they not offer a separate site or section for balisongs and autos, or just limit Paypal to orders without any balisongs or auto's?

In any case, I don't understand where the buyer is in this equation, or what they specifically mean by this. When you make an order with Paypal, the money is transferred before they ship out the order. If Paypal, for some reason, refuses to transfer the money to the seller/store, then they'd wait with shipping out until it's resolved, right?

It seems like Knifeworks accepts Paypal as well -- does anyone have any experience with this site?

Take a look at PayPal's dispute policy, I imagine that's what GP knives was talking about. It offers plenty of protection to the buyer, but virtually none to the seller. I'm certainly not the most experienced with PayPal, but from just reading their dispute/buyer protection policy it looks incredibly easy to screw a seller over. Here's the policy, https://www.paypal.com/uk/webapps/mpp/buyer-protection

Cheers,
Kirby

Paypal, an eBay company, does not believe in nor do they endorse the sale of what they deem as dangerous weapons. You will notice that eBay does not sell balisongs or autos either. They do have the right to refuse transactions that violate their policies (you can't buy a gun with paypal either).

Online knife retailers that sell balisongs and autos are up for targeting and increased scrutiny. Online retailers that do not sell balisongs or autos have no issues accepting paypal.

Knifeworks is a very reputable site and Roger is a good guy to deal with. But he has also stopped taking PP. Looks like the FAQs page has not been updated. You don't see the PP disallowed notice until you're checking out.

Oh well. Does anyone also have any experience with gpknives.com in that case?

I've bought quite a few knives from dealers that take PayPal. One GREAT recommendation is heinnie.com

They are located in the UK, so the prices might not be the most competitive out there…. but their service is excellent and they have a nice selection.

The whole PayPal thing seems silly to me, especially since there's plenty of stores that take PayPal that also happen to sell knives. Maybe they just have an issue when you sell ONLY knives.

We take paypal right now but we may move to other options , I had to remove tactical pens because they don't like anything tactical. We also stopped using ebay they making more then we do on our sales .

When a payment company tries to dictate what products a retailer can sell or not, even though a specific form a payment is not used for those purchases it is high time to walk away from Paypal, period. My advice is to use a credit card, or work out a way to do EMT some other way.

I don't have problem so much with paypal... there is a certain "kits" website who don't even take a payment from a mastercard from paypal.

Well 710, you don't have the problem, Paypal does. It's easier than ever to get a credit card these days, even a secured card. I'd much rather use a credit card directly than go through paypal. But why, why not use Paypal? I get better protection with my Visa if something goes wrong for starters. Secondly, I wouldn't have to divulge my credit card information to another organization acting as a middle man. And lastly, I would not be bound by Paypals rules of what you can and cannot buy, as my bank has more important things to do than investigate pieces of metal that by themselves are very rudimentary parts of a cutting tool. It makes perfect sense that retailers are saying no to Paypal. Why should a store located in a state where everything (balisongs, automatic knives, and firearms) are perfectly legal to own, use, and carry be forced to abide by the laws of a state on the other side of the country and in this case, the planet? It makes no sense to institute blanket policies like they have. If it is out of their own necessity to survive I can understand, but for the most part it creates hassles for the other 49 states.

I can buy or purchase from any website with no problems with PP or a PP CC, only have issue with "kits" website.. not sure why but I'm gonna guess because they sell gun powder kits... If you look at other "knife" websites they don't sell that type of stuff..

NationalKnives.com takes paypal and ships international. Incredibly good people to work with. I can let you know my personal experience via email (don't think the details are needed in this thread), drop me a note choombak at gmail dot com.

We take Paypal, but that may change very soon. Also, I know some of the sites that don't take it online will take it if you email them.
