Hey guys,

I have an opie number 8 in carbon and love it. I was wonder how their stainless steel blades hold up. Comparable to Vics or Case SS?

i also have a couple of carbon opinels, great knives.

so great in fact that i haven't felt the need to look into stainless...

i have read good things about the stainless though
 
I remember hearing that in 2003 Opinel switched from a French stainless steel to a Swedish steel Sandvick something or other. Can't recall the fine details, but the jist of it was that any stainless Opinel made after 2003 was going to be better. I think this may very well be true, because I gave Karen a Opinel in 2006 on Valentines day that had hearts all over it that I modded a bit, for a new purse knife. She's been using the heck out of it and its been good.
 
The new opinel stainless is more or less on par with the sak stainless (from a users point of view).
Which means it's slightly on the soft side, but you can use the snot out of it with no problems and it's easy to get a good, sharp edge on it.
