Good day everyone!

I recently purchased a Opinel no 6 as i wanted to try my hand at modifying it. I've never modded any knife before, and since Opinel's are famous for the mods that people do that them i was very intrigued.
So i started sanding down and rounding off the handle. My initial idea was to dye the wood (probably a dark color) and turn the blade into some kind of lambsfoot shape. However after the sanding i realised that i'm as creative as i thought i was, and i have no idea how to go on from here. I feel like the knife looks rather like a blank canvas at this stage.

If you have any ideas or examples on what i could do to my Opinel, let me know!

Here is it now:

This is a mod done by Matt Henry. He used to do these as a hobby but his full-time job and family are taking up his time now.

Apparently, I can't upload photos or attach files. Is this true for a gold membership?
At the bottom left under text box there should be a "attach files" tab, after you click the text box or hit "reply".
That's what I use to attach photos I've taken or in rare cases downloaded on the tablet.

For awhile, an opinel no.9 was my desk knife for cutting wax, opening packages etc, and I remember making minor changes to the handle to make it more comfortable. I cut away some of the roundness of the handle and sanded it down some. These things used to be like <$10, so I didnt mind messing with it. It was probably one of my earlier interactions with carbon steel.

I carved and painted this #7 to resemble Dumbledore's knife, from Harry Potter, a few years ago for my wife.

I couldn't find the correct style tail cap so I went with what it has, thinking the right one would turn up at an antique shop and I could swap it later. The current one is from an old earring that I ground to fit.

Not museum quality but it was fun to make and Mrs. Rupe likes it enough to display with her other Harry Potter stuff. Yes. She's a fan😁.

I googled it. He does some nice stuff.

I can see people dropping the tip if they are using their opies for cutting tasks outside of food.. but the main thing I use my opies for is food.

Having that long swept up tip is great for downward push cuts.

This one started life as an Ebauche model. I had to fill part of the blade slot so the spoon wouldn't leak. So I made the blade into a sheep foot.

I used a cheap harbor freight belt sander to do the grinding, with a container of water to dip it in, to keep the blade cool.

I think that if you go for a lambsfoot shape, you would be taking material off the back of the blade as well as the end. That might require removing material from the slot side of the handle, so that you could still get the blade open.
