Hey guys

I recently bought an Opinel #7 off my best friend who never used it. I stripped it of its paint (didn’t like the purple colour) and I’m now thinking of modding it. I’m thinking of changing the handle (carving maybe) but don’t have any ideas. I’m pretty much open to anything

Thanks!

I typically sand/contour the handle and, and often burn the wood to darken it.

Just curious.. I just got a #6 and want to stop off the varnish.. what do I use? After I strip it I'm gonna let the handle get a natural 'patina' from use. Thanks

Not mine. Google search carved opinel knife images. Lots of cool ones.

Search Opinel custom (or similar terms) on YouTube and there are plenty of videos of cool mods with carved/burned handles and forced patinas. In fact, it was an Opinel mod video that gave me the idea for the forced patina I put on the blade below. It was a surprisingly simple process.

wow.. but its a perfectly good knife :)
good luck putting the personal touches.
recommend you browse the opi mod thread
https://www.bladeforums.com/threads/opinel-mods-lets-see-them.1410003/

There are several threads here, mostly in Traditionals, where Opi mods are shown and discussed. Slimming the handles for easier pocketability, easy-open notches, blade modifications, patinas, lock-ring mods, arty or crafty treatments, you name it.
