So, I'm picking up a knife soon, and the blade is made of 1095 carbon steel and 15N20 Nickel steel damascus. I just wanted to know everyone's opinion on this combination. The maker of the blade is Grand Leavitt.

I'm not familiar with that mix but the 1080/15N20 is common and makes an excellent blade.Using 1095 would make a more wear resistant blade.

I have not heard of the maker, but 1095 is a pretty high carbon plain steel, and I believe that 15N20 is generally use for industrial bandsaw blades. I have seen quite a bit of Damascus made out of that steel combo, and given the right heat treat, I think they would make an excellent blade. As long as you oil the blade, or rub it with a silicon cloth after use, rust should not be a problem. Enjoy your new knife!

hello, i have 3 damascus blades by that maker, & one i am waiting on now. the steel holds a pretty good edge,& resharpens easily.i love damascus, & one of the best things about it is it hides any marks or wear in the blade from use. here are 2 of the 3 i had made, one is an outdoor edge magna, the other a crkt kasper small professional.i did the final blade fitting & shaping in the tang area.
