Opinions on a good Monocular....Zeiss vs Steiner

I am looking for a good small monocular. I have searched the archives for a thread that was here a while back. The discussion debated the merits of a small Zeiss monocular that cost less than a $100, and there was some discussion about the Steiner as well. I was unable to find that thread.
So ok guys......What is your opinion on these two? Any other suggestions and sources?
The intended use is general. We have some wonderful birds here, whale season is coming up, and there are a lot of boats out there.... Being portable, with the ease of pocket carry and the ability to put it in my carry on, briefcase or backpack is important.
A big mahalo in advance,

Hi Wabi,

Although the Tasco 8x21 monocular didn't get to good reports in the above thread I still think that for the money it cost me (us) it's a very nice monocular.
Someone said that the optics were not sharp, well the 4 Tasco monoculars that we have produce very crisp clear immages and they are really "bright" and you can focus up to about 4-5 foot.
They are extremely small and that causes the immage to "wobble" if not solidly held (you can even see your heartbeat).
They are not waterproof but that doesn't bother us at all as they are easilly tucked inside our waterproof coats when the weather gets bad.

The only drawback is that the immitation leather carrying case smells badly of plastic, still nobody uses the case as our scoutleaders carry the monoculars with the lanyard around their necks and the monocular stuffed in a shirt breast pocket.

Success with finding the right monocular,

Best scouting wishes from Holland,

Aloha,
I have looked at the various dealers for the Zeiss monocular....but I have not found a source of the Steiner Monocular.. There are a lot of dealers that have the Steiner binocs, but I have not found one that has the Monocular..anyone else know where I can find them?

Wabi

Jeez, just my luck. I called them and they are out of stock. Their distributor no longer carries them. I checked the Steiner web site, and they are not listed. I wonder if they still make them? Does anyone else know of a source that I could try?

Mahalo,
Wabi
