I'm seriously considering getting a Carbon V Cold Steel Kobun boot knife for daily carry. Does anyone have experience with this knife who would like to comment? I'll be using it for small jobs (read: opening envelopes, etc.) I also will be carrying it daily, and want to be able to use it in self defense if I need to, as I think a fixed blade will be better then the S&W Swat folder I carry now. Opinions?

i dont like mine, if i hadnt ruined it i'd give it to you.

It doesnt cut anything well, i belive that it was designed to stab people.

The handle does help conceal the knife but it doesnt help hold the knife.

so many much better options. These knives are made by Camills, and camillus also makes the cold steel Carbon V knives, these knives are actually made out of the same steel as carbon V. But these guys are way better.

the upswept blade is terrible geometry for just about evey knife task, really puts your wrist at a bad angle.

it is unfortunate cause the size is perfect.

if I were to go with a cold steel in that size it would be the master hunter, not as pretty but awesome.

other brands would be the emersom police utility, bm nimravus, also sog seal pup is good but I hate 440A.

probably the best small knife maker would be Newt Livesay (IMHO)

good luck

IMHO,

the non-camillus made (japanese made) Cold Steels are crap. Alot of people don't have much appreciation for the perceived as "cheapo" kraton handles of the Cold Steel Carbon V models, but there are many who herald them as fine work knives. I decided to skip the whole mess and go right to the source, bought a Becker Combat/Utility 7 and never looked back. What a knife! Ah well, the handles of the Carbon V cold steels are very subjective, and their designs do vary (the designs are still Cold Steel's) but the quality of the actual knife I will personally assure. I believe in Camillus's Engineering.
