I'm hoping for some suggestions and advice in regards to head mounted (not lamps with magnifiers) magnifiers. I've never used one, but am feeling like I'd like some help seeing the smaller things That I'm not now...

But, I saw they come in different magnification and I don't have a clue what I should get. Then I googled optivisors and saw there are all kinds and brands out there....and not really sure what I ought to get... Your help is greatly appreciated.

Optivisor is a brand name.....made by the Donnegan optical co in Lenexa Ks.

The lenses are easily swapped out, so if you get one in the mid range of magnification,

and want more or less magnification, you can just replace the lenses.

I have two, and use them quite frequently.

I'd suggest the mid range magnification (#3 to 5), as focal length decreases as magnification

increases.

Properly the term you want is 'depth of field' .It would be nice if you could try before you buy. Too much magnification will be an eye fatiguing thing. I only have a 2X one which is fine for my applications. I never seem to work on flat surfaces and that' where magnification really shows up .

Try reading glasses from the drug store or Walmart. 1.25 power has the longest focal length. I use 1.5 power. 2 power requires working uncomfortably close. Whatever power reading glasses work for you is the same power Optivisor you should use.

I have tried several magnifying visors and hated them all, then I picked up a set of aspheric lens reading glass's and I cant say enough good about them, I have 1.5x 3.5x and 5.0x The best part is you get a much wider field of view then you do with a visor, Which is handy when you are picking up and laying stuff down on the bench

I bought some of these magnifying safety glasses from Amazon and have been happy with them. They have them in other magnification strengths also. I have the 1.5 and 2.

Thanks so much for the input, just what I was hoping for. Looks like I've got a few more things to look at than the one brand of visor...

Not quite what you asked about, but I got several different kinds of safety glasses/magnifiers from my dentist, and they all work well- ask next time you're in!
